They put the "visual", in visual novel. First half of the game is not much else besides solid episodic stories accompanied by incredible visuals and music but then the second half starts getting into the grit of the story and is such a wonderful experience. You could be a cynic and criticize parts of the story that feel like they lack critical detail and whatnot but the whole narrative comes from the perspective of a young girl so that shouldn't be something to care that much about. These developers have no other games in their catalogue but my god if they ever make something again I will so be there. Like I said, they put the visual in visual novel and I can't stress that enough. The art and sound direction is genuinely such an incredible work of art and vision. Thank You, Mary.

If you're a fan of Umineko or Fata Morgana, please play this game. The soundtrack is excellent, the story has unexpected twists and turns and made me cry several times. I'm a huge visual novel fan, and, outside of visuals, I think the soundtrack and story are the most major components of a good one. Not to spoil anything, but the game remembers particular parts of your choices and, at the end, it feels like it's a critical part of the gameplay. I finished it in about 7 hours, which was a good three-night gaming session for me. Excellent length for a VN fan who, like myself, has a job and stuff to do but wants to enjoy a heady, tragic story.

Game : Schrödinger's Call Developer : Acrobatic Chirimenjako Score : 9/10 An emotional mystery driven narrative, with artistic presentation, and impactful after taste. Definitely one of the best indie game (or visual novel) for this year. Gameplay : [*] The gameplay isn't particularly interactive. It plays more like a detective-ish visual novel, where you gather clues and present them correctly to progress the story. [*] Dialogue choices you make don't really affect the storyline, and there are no real consequences for choosing the wrong option. The game simply rewinds and lets you try again. [*] That being said, the game, or visual novel i would say, rarely felt boring. The investigation segments really did a great job of making me feel like i’m solving a real mystery instead of just simply watching. Visual : [*] The visual is excellent, this is the level of presentation i hope to see in every visual novels. I absolutely love the hand drawn art, it looks beautiful and feels like looking straight at a storybook, and they even took it a step further with those gorgeous animation sequences. [*] I also have to mention the color work, i think it’s just amazing the way they switch from monochrome to colorful to express emotions in some specific moment. Story : [*] The storytelling is easily my favorite part of the game. It feels incredibly artistic and emotional, especially in the way the ending scene is presented. By that point, i just couldn't hold back my tears anymore. [*] The story itself plays around mystery investigation and themes of life and death. It’s well written, very emotional, and the mystery is really interesting to uncover due to the amount of unexpected plot twist. [*] Sadly, it does suffer from some pacing issues due to the number of flashbacks that feel unnecessary. It's not really dragging or anything, but it's worth mentioning. Audio : [*] The soundtrack is great. It has a fitting track for every mood, nothing feels off or awkward, and the way it uses instrumentation to support the story delivery is particularly brilliant. I just wish there is at least one vocal track to make it even more memorable, but it's not a big deal. Anyway, definitely wear a headphones as suggested by the developer to get the full immersive experience. Final Verdict : Such a fantastic and memorable experience, i honestly never thought this would end up being the most emotional game i've played this month. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys emotional stories, and mystery driven narratives. All I could say is... It's beautiful From the moment I tried the demo (chapter 1), I fell in love with the soundtracks, the artstyle, and the narrative. And I was right, through the next chapter till the end, I really enjoyed this game. The story is just beautiful, and carefully written. I don't know how to exactly put it with words, but this game will definitely has a place in my heart. It's not a long story, but each chapter was such an emotional roller-coaster, beautifully written, to convoy a pure, kind message to the reader. This is one of those visual novel you'd wish to forget about and wanted to feel it all over again like the first time you've read it. The soundtracks also really helps with the atmospheric and to build up the tension. So for anyone who read it and want to try this game, I really recommend you to use a headphone while playing the game. The puzzle, well, it's not really that outstanding. But that's because it was clearly made so the player doesn't really need to scratch their head over the mystery, but rather to feel and interact with the world themselves. The artwork, is also stunning. Maybe not for everyone, but I really love the hand-drawn child-like style with all the animals and symbolism. And once you've reach the conclusion part, you'll see that this is a perfect style for this story. Finally, for you at the end of the line, I want to say: Thank you for making this game with all your heart. I hope this story and its message also reach to those who need it. I hope this message reached each of the developer team. Sincerely, your reader.

I bought the full game, and this is my review of Chapter 1. I’ll update the review again after I finish the whole game. This game immediately hooked me with its visuals, but that’s not even the best part. The story is incredibly well written, sad and mysterious at the same time. I absolutely love games like this.
