Loved this game so much bought the physical card game. Love card games and super heroes? this game is for you. Each hero plays different and not just copy paste decks. Selecting area (its own deck) to fight it and which villain to fight (each with their own deck) keep this game very fresh.

Sentinels of the Multiverse, in its digital form by Handelabra Games Inc., faithfully adapts the cooperative tabletop card game into a polished PC experience that preserves the spirit, structure, and strategic depth of the original. At its core, the game places you in command of a team of uniquely designed superheroes, each represented by a fixed deck of cards that determines their abilities, personality, and playstyle. You face off against a villain who runs on an automated deck of their own, while a hazardous environment adds an unpredictable layer of threats and opportunities. This three-way interaction — heroes, villain, environment — creates battles that feel dynamic and thematic, each unfolding like a dramatic comic-book showdown full of twists, teamwork, and escalating tension. What makes the digital adaptation immediately appealing is the removal of all the cumbersome bookkeeping required in the physical version. The game automatically handles health tracking, damage calculations, ongoing effects, environment triggers, deck reshuffling, and all the timing windows that can bog down physical play. This automation lets the player focus entirely on strategy rather than rule policing. For solo players, the streamlined interface is especially valuable because controlling multiple heroes becomes smooth rather than mentally overwhelming. The game’s structure — “Play one card, use one power, draw one card” — remains clear and reliable, but the layers of hero interactions keep the experience from feeling simplistic. The presentation leans deeply into its comic-book identity. Card art features bold, expressive illustrations, and the UI is clean but stylized in a way that evokes the bright energy of superhero fiction. Heroes, villains, and environments all have distinct visual themes, helping players quickly identify card types and abilities. The vibrant visuals reinforce the idea that each battle is part of a larger heroic saga, and the game’s music and sound effects complement the action without becoming intrusive. The adaptation retains the tone and charm of a comic universe that is self-aware, energetic, and unashamedly dramatic. One of the most compelling aspects is the vast variety built into the hero, villain, and environment combinations. Even in the base game, there is a wide range of playstyles: damage-dealers, healers, support characters, equipment-focused heroes, combo-builders, and characters who manipulate the flow of turns or mitigate environmental hazards. The villain decks introduce their own win conditions and behavior patterns — some escalate damage every turn, others summon minions, others disrupt your plans through unexpected global effects. Environments add further complexity, sometimes harming the heroes, sometimes hurting the villains, sometimes altering the battlefield in unpredictable ways. Each match feels like a puzzle defined by the interplay of decks rather than static mechanics. With DLC expansions, this variety multiplies dramatically, giving the game immense replayability and long-term value. Despite this richness, Sentinels of the Multiverse is not without a learning curve. New players may find the number of status effects, card interactions, damage types, and passive abilities intimidating at first. The digital interface, while generally intuitive, still requires a lot of reading, especially early on when you’re learning what every card does. The game rewards familiarity with hero decks and repeated experimentation, so it may take several matches before the rhythm truly clicks. However, once you understand how certain decks synergize, the experience becomes increasingly satisfying — the game is designed around discovering powerful combinations and adapting to chaotic battlefield conditions. That chaotic element is both a charm and a frustration. The card-draw randomness, combined with layered environment and villain activations, can lead to sudden swings where a well-planned strategy collapses because of an unfortunate sequence of effects. For some players, this unpredictability enhances the comic-book feel — heroes triumphing against impossible odds or getting blindsided by absurd twists fits the genre. Others may find the randomness a bit too strong, preferring more deterministic tactical games. Sentinels firmly embraces the idea of chaos as part of the narrative. The cooperative structure is one of the game’s strongest features. Whether playing solo (controlling multiple heroes) or with friends online, the game thrives on coordination: sequencing plays, timing abilities, and saving the right cards for pivotal moments. Each hero feels meaningfully different, which encourages experimentation and teamwork. The digital port makes cooperative multiplayer smooth and fast, avoiding the physical version’s slowdown when multiple people handle multiple decks. In the end, Sentinels of the Multiverse succeeds as a deep, thematic, and highly replayable superhero strategy game. It offers an enormous well of content, meaningful strategic choice, and a vibrant comic-book aesthetic brought to life in a clean digital package. While it may overwhelm newcomers with its layers of mechanics and occasionally frustrate more analytically minded players with its reliance on luck, it has a unique charm that rewards persistence. For fans of cooperative card games, for players who love superhero fiction, or for anyone seeking a rich strategic experience without competitive pressure, Sentinels of the Multiverse remains one of the most satisfying digital adaptations of a tabletop classic available on Steam. This is my favorite game, of any kind, ever. I used to own a complete physical collection, as well as a complete copy on my phone; both were destroyed, and I lived without for two years rather than buy the whole game a third time, but heck, it's worth it. The most comic book game of all time, and the best simulation of multiversal time theory I've ever seen (according to the time travel rules I made up in my own head, based on my favorite movies, which are just how I'm assuming the science of temporal physics would actually work), this game was my ultimate obsession for most of a decade, and I'm going back yet again to fall in love all over.

Sentinels of the Multiverse is easy to learn yet has a depth of complexity that keeps you coming back for more. The base game does not provide the most content in the world, but it does serve as a good way to introduce yourself to the game through simpler characters, environments, and villains before jumping into any of the stuff behind DLC paywalls. I could ramble on, but you get the point: cool card game, unique challenges, fun times (especially with friends on multiplayer).

Always fun to play, especially with friends. Great way to be able to hang out and not have to compete against each other while having engaging co-op
