Revolution combines The First Encounter and The Second Encounter into one package and adds the Bright Island campaign on top. However, one thing that sets Revolution apart from the others is its development history. The game originally started as a project by a fan team called Alligator Pit, made up of Serious Sam fans. However, the project was put on hold for a while during development. Later, Croteam took over the project, completed the development, and prepared the game for release. If you already own TFE or TSE, you can get Revolution for free through Steam. Unlike most companies nowadays, Croteam isn't greedy and doesn't try to sell you the same game over and over again. At first, I thought Bright Island was just a few extra levels, but I was surprised when I realized that it was a completely new campaign. There aren't as many levels as in TFE and TSE, but the levels are longer, so the campaign still feels quite large. New levels, enemies, weapons, and music have been added. The enemies are modified versions of old enemies or combinations of them, but they still add some variety to the fights. Basically, they're like our old friends with a little makeup. The new music isn't bad either, but I can't say the same about the voice audio. Especially the recording quality of Sam's new lines is terrible. The voice sounds muffled and low-quality in some places, and this is especially noticeable during dialogue. John J. ♥♥♥♥ still voices Sam, but the recording quality doesn't feel as clean as in the original games. The new weapons are also nice, although they felt a little unbalanced to me. You can also use the new weapons in the TFE and TSE levels, but their ammo isn't always replenished. Bright Island also has several nice Easter eggs and hidden details, just like the first games. The “No more bogus detours!” line in The Steps of Despair is a reference to Serious Sam's Bogus Detour. If you entered the secret Tropical Bluffs level beforehand, NETRICSA says this line, directly referencing Bogus Detour. It's a small but nice detail. Valley of Plenty was inspired by an unused map concept from an old Serious Sam development build. There is also a hidden room in The Steps of Despair containing concept art drawn by the developers. These small details make Bright Island more than just a campaign with new levels and also connect it to Serious Sam's history. Another important feature of Revolution is Steam Workshop support. Being able to easily access maps and mods created by the community greatly increases the game's replayability. For a game as mod-friendly as Serious Sam, having a system like this is a nice addition. The Steps of Despair was a good final level. The big battles and the overall atmosphere prepare you for the finale nicely. However, I can't say the same about the final boss, Quantum Golem. The boss design and the fight were terrible. Especially when you hide behind one of the pillars, Quantum Golem can't do anything to you. You can simply attack it from a safe spot and kill the boss very easily. Even though the level itself was fun, having such an easy and poorly designed boss fight was disappointing. I didn't expect much since it was fan-made, but I never thought it could be this bad. The co-op side is still quite fun as well. Especially during Serious Sam's huge battles, playing with friends fits the chaotic nature of the game very well. However, the online side is basically dead. From what I've seen, it's very difficult to find active players in this game, and if you don't have friends to play with, you can't really experience the co-op side online. Revolution is a nice package. For example, if you only own TFE, you can get this package for free and also play TSE and Bright Island. The final boss of the new campaign may be bad, but the levels were fun.
Serious Sam Classics: Revolution is a unified version of the Croteam's original Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter and Serious Sam Classic: The Second Encounter experiences. All of the enemies from Serious Sam 1 appear in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution, along with a few unique variations that have different attacks. Several enemies cut from The First Encounter have also been coded into the game as functioning enemies so they can be spawned by mapmakers. Played this on my Lenovo P15 with UHD 630 graphics and Quadro T1000 graphics. Game is very playable.
A Must-Play for Serious Shooter Fans Serious Sam Classics: Revolution is a unified Steam hub that bridges The First Encounter and The Second Encounter into one seamless, chaotic package. If you think you are good at FPS games but have somehow never played Serious Sam, you owe it to yourself to test your mettle here. The main novelty of this package is Bright Island, an exclusive 8-level bonus campaign. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite live up to the legacy of the main games. It feels largely unbalanced, suffers from pacing issues, and features massive encounters that drag on far too long compared to the tight, frantic design of Croteam's original levels. But even with a mediocre bonus campaign, the core package remains a truly hardcore, old-school first-person arena shooter that stands as an absolute must-play for every fan of the genre. Pros: Great level design with numerous secrets. Brutal gameplay and awesome arsenal. Enemy variety. Great soundtrack. Visual variety in levels with good graphics. Cons: Some enemy placement and arenas are very annoying. The new campaign is disappointing.
Good old Serious Sam, this time with a third campaign Bright Island. At some points this one is better than the HD remasters. The "gravity-flip" mechanic is intact while it's totally absent in HD version. The Bright Island campaign is good, it had new weapons, enemies, and of course, levels (though not as good as the original levels). Recommended for returning Sam fans.
