The best way to play Serious Sam 3 so far. So I'll just leave my recommendation for the game. A very reluctant recommendation. Serious Sam 3 is probably the the second worst game in the franchise. In some aspects, it has a few fewer flaws compared to the previous ones, but a truckload of others have been added. The pace is good (kinda), the movement is much faster compared to the originals (Which helps with the terrible level design and enemy encounters), the shooting is adequately satisfying (But nothing remarkable for the time), the graphics are not so terrible for an arcade game that seems to have been released in a context well out of its time (which doesn't mean they haven't aged like milk) AND you have a notable absence of the most annoying features of the old ones that were unfortunately rescued in the later entries (Most obviously, the constant gratuitous ambushes that add nothing to the experience). The game has that veneer of amateurism that today has become part of its charm. I've always found it quite amusing that one of the most dumb franchises out there, with the most braindead gameplay you can imagine, also has some of the most down-to-earth scenarios you could find back then. The first stages in particular were probably inspired by genuine war zones, bringing a very strange and contrasting dose of realism. Not that the game has an adequate atmosphere to match the setting... Any spark of immersion is promptly obliterated by the constant interruptions of one of the worst implementations of dynamic music systems I've ever seen. I can't understand how anyone would find it acceptable to listen to constant, repeated micro-snippets of an action track that never progresses every time you encounter an enemy along the way. It's incredibly distracting. It ruins both the mood of the exploration and the action when it does unfold. It's even more unbelievable since Serious Sam 4 still uses the same system. So it must be on purpose. The game looks like an over-produced mod that has a lot of rough edges. It has a poorly finished look and a lack of elegance in its presentation that makes its low budget obvious. Too many empty spaces with no purpose. Pointless detours. Secrets that seem to have been deliberately implemented with the intention of making it seem like you shouldn't find them and don't offer any significant rewards (like climbing pieces of geometry that shouldn't be possible to climb, only to find a weapon that you simply can't find ammo for until you advance two or three more levels), very strange and unbalanced resource distribution, really bad animations and so on. The waves of enemies don't feel designed. Most of them simply happen in a very inconsistent and loose manner, giving a very random character to the combat experience, instead of something continuous and intense. Not to mention the almost permanent moments of enemies that simply get lost amidst the monstrously redundant geometry of the environments. And the jokes and one-liners never land (It's a little embarrassing). But, of course, the thing is pretty dumb. unapologetically gamy. So whatever. Somehow the formula works. Even playing it safe, Serious Sam 3 is uncompromising and guaranteed fun. I can barely say it's a mediocre game, but it is probably the best kind of garbage you can find out there. Crushing hundreds of enemies at once in a more or less structured and suitably punishing dance has an inexhaustible and timeless appeal. It's never a bad idea to indulge in something like this. Definitely recommended. P.S: Croteam, please, this is not rocket science. Put a non-intrusive ambient track when the player is exploring and then when (AND ONLY WHEN) a big fight is about to start (you know, the main attraction of your franchise since the first game), THEN you blast the action track.

Great if you're a Serious Sam fan but proceed with caution All the games are good if you're a fan of that genre but don't expect the polish of Doom or Wolfenstein. However they're all worth a go and this is the best way to experience them. BEWARE* SS3 absolutely has the worst final boss in the series and there is zero shame in checking a guide for that tedious monstrosity.

I am a long time console gamer and relatively new to the PC space (bought my first gaming PC in 2019, and a Steam Deck in 2023 and have never looked back. Serious Sam, for me, is the PC equivalent of Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect. It's got the same off-brand sense of humor, it's violent in a humorous way, and it just doesn't take itself very seriously. The one thing I'll say about SS is it is better than the Timesplitters games' campaigns in about every conceivable way. I cannot speak for Multiplayer as I've not tried it, yet. But a couple of things you should know about if you're considering trying Serious Sam for the first time. 1. Serious Sam First Encounter HD, Second Encounter HD, SS 2, and SS 3 all work within Serious Sam Fusion, which is basically a one stop shop launcher to play ALL of your Serious Sam game content in one place. 2. From what I understand, playing in Fusion has a few additional perks, which I cannot compare with because my only experience with these games is within Fusion. 3. The graphics are great, super clean artstyle, runs REALLY well on the Steam Deck (First Encounter HD can run at 4K 60 while docked and in split screen coop, which honestly blew my friend and I away). 4. It's super old school in feel. Enemies come at you in droves, you need to prioritize which enemies to kill first otherwise you'll be toast quickly. It's challenging but at least on Normal I have not had any issue with continuing to make progress after a few tries. 5. It will make you a better FPS and TPS player just by playing. My reactions and aiming accuracy in Helldivers 2 have both improved from playing this game. 6. Serious Sam has 4 player split screen coop, and 16 player coop online...Now to find more friends lol. 7. The ancient Egypt vibe is AWESOME and I love it so much. 8. If this review hasn't convinced you to try this game then you must not like fun. Go back to COD ya bum.
