Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation The Endless Seven-Day Journey is a gentle, whimsical adventure that prioritizes atmosphere, routine, and childhood wonder over traditional challenge or urgency. Developed and published by Neos Corporation, the game translates the spirit of the long-running Shin-chan series into an interactive format that feels more like inhabiting a memory than completing a checklist of objectives. Rather than pushing the player forward with constant goals, it invites them to slow down, explore, and experience summer through the eyes of an endlessly curious child. The game begins with Shin-chan traveling with his family to the rural town of Assou for what should be a quiet summer getaway. From the outset, the structure is intentionally loose. Days are divided into morning, afternoon, and evening, and within those periods the player is free to roam fields, riversides, forests, and town streets at their own pace. Activities are simple and intentionally mundane: catching bugs, fishing, chatting with locals, taking photos, or helping with small errands. These actions rarely feel like chores; instead, they reflect the aimless freedom of a child on holiday, where discovery is its own reward and even the smallest encounter can feel significant. A central mechanic revolves around Shin-chan’s illustrated diary, where discoveries, conversations, and oddities are recorded. This system gently nudges exploration without enforcing strict objectives, allowing players to define what progress looks like for themselves. The act of filling the diary becomes less about completion and more about personal memory-making, reinforcing the game’s nostalgic tone. The countryside itself is richly detailed and full of subtle life, with shifting lighting, ambient sounds, and small visual cues that make the world feel warm and lived-in. As the days pass, the story gradually drifts from slice-of-life into surreal territory. The arrival of the eccentric Professor Akuno introduces a strange narrative thread involving a mysterious camera and increasingly bizarre phenomena. What initially feels like a harmless curiosity slowly reshapes the game’s structure, introducing time loops, strange creatures, and dreamlike sequences that contrast sharply with the grounded calm of the town. This tonal shift is handled delicately, never abandoning the relaxed pacing, but adding a layer of intrigue that keeps the experience from becoming static. Despite the strange events, the game never becomes stressful or demanding. There are no fail states, combat systems, or punishing mechanics. Instead, the challenge lies in observation and patience, in noticing patterns, understanding how daily routines change, and deciding how to spend limited time each day. This design choice may feel aimless to players expecting clear goals or traditional progression systems, but it is precisely what gives the game its unique identity. It mirrors the feeling of summer days blending together, where repetition is comforting rather than tedious. Visually, the game stays faithful to Shin-chan’s exaggerated cartoon style while pairing it with softly detailed backgrounds that evoke rural Japan in summer. Characters are expressive and humorous, often communicating personality through simple animations rather than dialogue alone. The soundtrack and ambient audio further enhance the mood, with cicadas, wind, and gentle music reinforcing the sense of place. Everything works together to create an experience that feels cozy, playful, and quietly immersive. Narratively, the game does not rush toward a dramatic climax. Its story unfolds slowly, often through implication rather than exposition, and leaves room for interpretation. Some players may find the conclusion understated or ambiguous, but it fits the overall theme of fleeting childhood moments and half-remembered summers. The emotional weight comes not from plot twists, but from the accumulation of small experiences and the sense of time passing. Ultimately, Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation The Endless Seven-Day Journey is best approached as an interactive slice of nostalgia rather than a conventional adventure game. It rewards curiosity, patience, and an appreciation for atmosphere over mastery or efficiency. For players who enjoy relaxed exploration, cozy routines, and storytelling that blends the ordinary with the surreal, it offers a uniquely comforting and memorable journey—one that captures the feeling of a childhood summer that seems endless while you’re living it, yet fleeting once it’s gone. Fun, relaxing Shin chan game, though can be a little slow at times. Time limit doesn't really affect anything, which was my biggest worry- you have all the time you want. Enjoy your vacation.

This is the most adorable game. I love the idea of cozy games like Stardew Valley, but I do always yearn for a story hook or goal-oriented gameplay to really get me invested. This game is pure ADVENTURE as a weird little pervert child-ape thing. There's bug collecting, fishing, helping out the townspeople and a surprisingly fun story to go with it. Just jump in. Enjoy the family summer vacations you used to go on as a kid. I actually almost cried at the ending lol

I played this game in Japanese, primarily as a means of studying, but ended up enjoying it thoroughly and 100%ing it. The backgrounds in this game are stunning, and the overall tone and setting is super relaxing. From a completion standpoint, it is possible to 100% in one playthrough, but you may need to consult an online guide to find any remaining fish / insects. There are some fish / insects the game requires you to catch 30 of. It can be a bit tedious, but I discovered that there are areas (around the house, primarily), where you can explore as much as you want without the day ending - you just have to avoid entering areas that trigger the 'time to come home' scene. As far as I know, it is possible to get all fish and insects on the last day using this method. The only completion goals I found to be a slog were the dinosaur battles. It's not a fun minigame, and often just boils down to luck. The introduction of cards is neat, but you can only select one per battle, so you end up just picking the best one - and all other cards become irrelevant. If you do play this game in Japanese, the grammar is relatively straightforward, and there is full furigana for the kanji. There are some expressions or phrases that were a bit confusing, and some characters that were a little difficult to understand, but overall it was playable for anyone at around the N3 level. Overall, I had a great time with this game, and am itching to play more 'Summer Vacation' games (in particular, the Boku no Natsuyasumi games).
