This is my favorite platformer of all time and I've played a lot of platformers. I originally played it on 3DS When it was simply Shovel Knight and it has so much extremely high quality content in it now it could be nearly overwhelming. I recommend not trying to play through all this game has to offer at once or you will be here for a very long time.

PSA: Specter Knight and King Knight Campaigns are entirely their OWN games do not believe the misconception that you just play as them in Shovel Knight's levels! Since this game includes 4 campaigns (and I've played each at least 2 times) I think it's only fair that I review each separately: King Knight Campaign - Top Notch: I'm putting this at the top in case it sounds the alarms to a single soul that this game is literally big enough to be a full on sequel. Its map is ginormous and the item design is probably the best of any of the characters. His toolkit is extremely fun! He has the warioland shoulder bash and when he bonks it turns into a twirl that's more akin to shovel knight's pogo. The writing is definitely at it's funniest in this campaign, he's a menace and a full-blown egomaniac. He also has a full card game inside the campaign that I think is rather neat, but if you don't vibe with it it is entirely optional! I played this campaign to 100% completion because I simply love it so much. Specter Knight Campaign - ALSO Top Notch: So Specter Knight's campaign is probably most notable for having the best movement. I absolutely don't begrudge anyone who prefers this to King of Cards. On my initial replay of Specter of Torment I assumed I would as well to be honest. This guy is so incredibly fun to move around with and has the best individual level design when taken in a vacuum. The only reason I rate this under King of Cards is that I loved every second of both and there are simply less seconds of this game. It's probably the shortest one if we go by average playtime but that can definitely work to its advantage! If you're looking for a short game to play and you own this and you assumed it was just playing as Specter Knight in shovel knight's levels then go play this right now. This campaign also definitely has the best story but I won't spoil any of that :) Shovel Knight Campaign - Very Good: The platformer that started it all. A wonderful game that I've beaten on 3 different systems. I like it a lot! I don't feel like I really have to sell this one when 32.4% of players who own this have beaten it, whereas only 5.9% of people who own this have beaten King of Cards. Shovel Knight is excellent. I'm of the opinion that they were able to top it with the aforementioned campaigns but if you haven't played it do. It's a treat. Plague Knight Campaign - Fine: Worth playing but is very much just a different move set in the same levels as shovel knight with some minor tweaks and new rooms. There's a reason this is the only campaign that isn't sold separately. His campaign was the first one added and you can tell. It's a fun time but you'll probably enjoy it more if you play it last and treat it like a small additional thing. It does add quite a bit of new stuff and I don't want to downplay that, but compared to the other 2 additional knights getting levels designed for them from scratch it really can't compare. It's not Plague Knight's fault though! At least he has a neat Speedrun!

Pirated the game on my 3ds 8 years ago when I was a kid and then I bought the game on steam years later. Amazing game filled with just so much content. You basically get 4 different games in one. King knight and shovel knight's gotta be my favorites to play.

People have said enough already about the base game. It's a really good time. It should be known, however, that the other games are absolute BANGERS and should be played! Do not miss out on them! I see a lot of people who liked (or didn't like) the base game and never went back the other ones. Firstly, be aware that Plague of Shadows was a bit of trial run, and is the weakest of the DLCS. Try it out for sure, you'll probably like it, but don't be afraid to move on. Specter of Torment is a complete remake of the entire game, and King of Cards is a full on sequel, with an amount of content that rivals the base game. Treasure Trove also comes with a fighting game spinoff that's pretty fun with friends. Anyway the games are really good.
