I want to give this FLATHEAD a thumbs up. It has a great style, great sound and generally a quality creepy game, but there are a couple of major flaws that force me to not generally recommend. You are told very little of the mechanics, but I think that works fine for this type of game. It is mainly a game of chance (at least until you understand) and that means you will get screwed over many times. The effect of losing to chance turns the fear or confusion into anger and impatience, and this removes the tension. This is a game that tells you the story, or at least enough of the story for you to kind of understand what is happening, through enviromental cues and audio/text logs you unlock after playing. Here is the problem: You unlock the logs too slow. You will have to beat the game so many times you start to lose interest unless you are really invested or really want that 100%. It starts to feel like work even when you crack the code for how to farm. I enjoyed it for what it was the first 1,5-2 hours, but after that it become a chore. If you are looking for a short creepy SCP-similiar game with gambling and don't mind a little work, then you should definitely play FLATHEAD. If not, then you can stear clear. EDIT 22.7: After dev commented that there is a way to get all tapes easy if you don't want to spend the extra hours gambling for them, I changed my opinion about this game. My biggest problem was with time required for getting all tapes and how that time use will take away the creepy and eerie feeling that makes the game good. I recommend you play as much as possible and then use the toggle in the menu when it begins to feel less like a thrill and more like a job. This review was orignally "NOT RECOMMENDED unless...", but now I am more towards to "RECOMMENDED" so I have swapped my score

I really enjoyed this game. It has an addictively simple gameplay loop, and vibes so thick you can cut them with a knife. That being said, I do have a couple of complaints. One of the main weaknesses of this game, in my opinion, is the lack of proper tutorial. I understand that the game is supposed to be mysterious, and a lack of tutorial helps, but if you're not going to add a tutorial, you need to make the controls intuitive so that a player can actually understand them. While the game mostly succeeds, one massive issue I had was with the EXIT bar. When you reach the required number of points, you're supposed to click and hold on the bar to pull it down. This was shown in the incubator room, where you have to hold the bar. The problem is that the bar in the incubator and the Exit bar look completely different, and I couldn't make the connection. Meaning that even after reaching the required number of points, I clicked the bar, it did nothing, and I was back at square one trying to figure out what to do. I fact, I spent around 50 minutes just fucking around with no clear goal because of the unclear layout. Another issue I have with the game is that it's almost completely luck based. There are traces of strategy, such as deciding when to use your lights, when to risk making your own luck or when it's worth it to try the wheel of luck, but none of this affects the probabilities of you winning. As it stands, the game is dead simple. If the number is bigger than 10, go under, because that's statistically the likeliest. If the number is lower than 10, go over, because that's statistically likeliest. It's fun, but not THAT fun, y'know? A lot of similar, luck-based games, such as Buckshot Roulette, fix this by using consumable items, which you can use to shift the odds in your favor. I think this would be a fantastic fit for the game. Maybe when you complete a round, you get to spin a wheel to get an item. These items could be used before you make your decision, to shift the odds and actually add strategy. Overall, the game is good, and I will be playing it much more to try and unlock all the tapes, but it has a lot of missing potential and questionable game design decisions which really hinder its quality.

Cute game, wicked visuals, heart-touching credits messages but i felt like doing the same thing after and after to get all the tapes and reach the ending was a bit boring & overwhelming Would recommend anyhow tho

What an amazing experience, they could've charged $10 and I would've still bought this game, its such a mindblowingly uncomfortable horror game that doesn't rely too much on jumpscares, the atmosphere and setting alone gets you creeped out enough. The lore and possible theories that could be spawned from this 1 game alone is enough to feed a subreddit for a good month. I can't wait for the silkbulb test! Please continue making games!
