Skydance took a very safe route with Behemoth. The combat is solid enough to be engaging, and the environment design and graphics look great for a VR game, even if the story is just passable. It doesn’t really try anything new or push boundaries in any department, contrary to the hype I saw from some VR content creators at launch. The story trajectory actually surprised me in the wrong way. It started with an interesting premise but slowly dissolved into basic writing and a very predictable fantasy narrative. However, the core gameplay is a fun package. I especially appreciate the dark caves where you have to light up the environment with a torch. It’s such a basic mechanic, but the implementation feels great here and is truly immersive. That said, one downside everyone mentions, deservedly so, is the trial-and-error nature of the Behemoth fights. On paper, scaling these beasts sounds amazing, but the execution is just frustrating. You find yourself clinging to a giant creature high in the sky, failing over and over simply because something doesn't work right, such as janky physics or a lack of intuitive guidance. This really hinders the enjoyment. All of this sounds so negative but the overall experience is still polished and worth it (especially for 20€ on a sale) Recommendation for Meta Quest 3: I only got the game running smoothly by setting Meta Link as the default OpenXR runtime. Start the game directly from the Steam library using the MetaXR option (without opening SteamVR).

Imagine the sword fighting of Blade & Sorcery if it was more of a video game and less of a gore simulator and actually had a followable story. Why aren't we getting more VR games as fleshed out as this???? Mad fun combat, plus Im a sucker for grapple hooks

Fantastic game. I bought it on discount, but I wouldn't feel cheated if I would have bought it at full price. It took me 12.7 hours to complete the game on easy mode.

I had an issue where I would launch the game from steamvr home and then I would get an error saying headset not detected, to fix it I had to launch the game through steam but without opening steamvr before it and then the game launches properly. Anyways, this is a good linear VR game, yes most of the playable areas are not very large apart from the boss arenas but at the same time they have enough space for you to engage in combat without being completely boxed in and also have several secret areas to find. The graphics in this game are very good, no complaints there apart from some rare screen flickering in a few very specific areas. The combat is decent, I think it's better than Tales of Glory combat but definitely not as good as in Blade and Sorcery. The game would be even better if there were more behemoths to fight because you will be spending most of the time fighting the normal human sized enemies. Overall I would rate this game 7/10, it's definitely not a genre defining game but I still had a lot of fun completing it, especially fighting the second behemoth which was an amazing experience in vr and using the grappling hook is fun as well.
