I don't blame you if you'd rather wait for a sale as this game is comically overpriced, but trust me it is absolutely worth your time if you like kart racers. Also like... you can play as Hatsune Miku and Knuckles the Echidna in the same game bro.

Super Sonic Racing! I'll admit, before I played the Open Network Test and the final version of the game, I was skeptical if it would be good or not, let alone worth the $70-$90 price. But after participating in the Open Network Test, trying out most of the final game's single-player and multiplayer content, I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite racing games I've played in a long time. Positives There are a lot of things I can complement this game for, like the rival interactions in Grand Prix mode and the game's presentation, but the aspects I was most impressed by were the controls, the maps, and the gadgets. Even though I haven't tried out every vehicle as of making this, the ones I found the most enjoyable to control were the speed and the boost (hoverboard) type vehicles. The game overall feels very good and it felt like, in most areas at least, I was able to make decisions of how I wanted to navigate the course. One thing I would highly recommend if you feel the gameplay's too slow is to go to the settings and turn on Dynamic Camera. This makes the game feel a lot better than with it set to the default setting. The maps were also well designed and locations they chose to represent in this game were awesome ( Please don't give me more Radical Highway Black Doom, I've experienced it enough in Shadow Generations )! Most of the gadgets in this game are also really good. It's fun trying to mix and match different gadgets with your character and vehicle to come up with the best option that suits different playstyles. Another thing I'm willing to complement this game for is something I enjoyed in the Open Network Test as well: the online multiplayer. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but this is one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I've had in who knows how long. Every race I participated in felt very chaotic in a very fun way. In fact, that's the best way I can describe the races in this game. Playing this game's online mode was very exciting and fun, even if I sometimes didn't get first place. Before each race, you can even interact with other players in the waiting room through emotes each character has. It's something that didn't need to add, but it makes interacting with others more enjoyable while you wait for the map to be chosen. Everything leading up to the conclusion of each race also feels very climatic. There's no better feeling than racing as the final lap music plays along while you rush pass every other racer until you're barely able to snag first place and win the race. It's fun and accelerating almost everytime I play an online match, which is something I have a hard time trying to experience in other multiplayer games. Those moments do happen sometimes, but not as often as something like this. The customization in this game is also really fun to mess around with. I really enjoy trying to create and design my own vehicle I can use in races. There are so many ways you can customize your vehicle to your liking, and I think that's great. Some of my favorite customized vehicles I made was for the hoverboards, trying to theme them around the characters I like playing as. I also really like the game's soundtrack. From what I've heard, it's pretty divisive depending on who you ask, but I enjoyed the game's soundtrack just as much as the soundtracks from other Sonic games, even the main theme isn't as bad as some may say. And if you don't like some of the game's original music, you can also use the Jukebox to have specific music from previous games play at different points in a race. Negatives In terms of what I don't like about this game, there aren't that many. While the gadget system is really good, I find it hard to bother exploring more options once I find one that works great for me, with the exception of challenges. The flight and sea areas of some maps are good, but they do take a bit to get good at. In the case of the sea areas, it can get somewhat problematic to control, leading to bumping into walls way more often than you'd like. Getting tickets to purchase other things, like decals and skins once you get to that point in the game, become very tedious to grind for once you've completed a lot of the game's single-player content. And the biggest two critiques I have is the game's price and some of the characters. $70 for the standard edition is, somewhat, understandable. But $90 for the complete package does feel somewhat scummy when you consider that none of the DLC characters and third party characters don't have voices. For some characters, this makes sense (such as Steve, Alex, and Creeper from the Minecraft pack and maybe Mega Man and Proto Man from the newly teased Mega Man pack), but for everyone else, it's very weird. With the exception of Hatsune Miku (to an extent), the only characters in the game that get to have complete voicelines are the main 24 characters (I say 24 because you do unlock one more character once you beat every rival in Grand Prix mode). Besides those characters, everyone else is completely mute, even characters that originate from the Sonic series. If the extra characters reused voicelines from previous games, I would have been fine with that. But sadly, that's not what happened. Conclusion Overall, Sonic Racing Crossworlds is a very, very fun racing game. Is it the Mario Kart World killer that a lot of people are saying it is? Well, I don't have much of a saying in this because 1: I've never played that game, and 2: I don't think it's fair to compare these two games and saying that one is better than the other, at least not in a way that invalidates other people's opinions. Even though I haven't played Mario Kart World, I do want to see both of these games succeed and keep getting better as time goes on. Even putting my bias toward the Sonic series aside, Sonic Racing Crossworlds is a very fun racing game I'll keep playing it as time goes and I highly recommend you give it a shot as well. This game also runs remarkably well on the Steam Deck OLED. I'm not sure if it's the same with the LCD model, but because the game is verified to work on the Steam Deck, I think it would be fine. If you believe the price is too much, which I honestly don't blame you for, I'd wait for it to go on sale. But if you want to get the game now, I'd recommend getting the Standard Edition first, then see if you enjoy the game enough to buy the rest of the game's DLC. Other than that, this is something I believe is definitely worth checking out. It's one of the best multiplayer games I've experienced in a long time, and I hope this game continues to spread that chaos and excitement to other players.

Plays great on the Steam Deck. You can run it on high settings 60 fps if you drop the textures resolution to 75%, and you'll get about three hours out of like that. Music slaps, Blaze is best girl, and the people who start races with the Monster Truck are not fit for civilized society.

It is literally Super Smash Bros in a racing format. Sega does what Nintendon't, 10/10.
