Spark the Electric Jester is a pretty good Sonic-inspired game. However, I warn you now that there are some performance issues with the game. I witnessed FPS drops in heavy animated sections, and I couldn’t access the pause menu without the game crashing. There is a mod to fix these issues, but I didn’t see it until later. I’ll link it below. The game manages to mix the main gameplay of Sonic, the abilities of Kirby, and bits and pieces of Mega Man for something slightly new. Controls are solid, art is great, music slaps, and the level design is very well done…with a few exceptions. Not going to lie, a section of this game was so unfun that it made me crash out. It threw out too many enemies, had tons of timed platforms, annoying nukes, and no abilities. I contemplated continuing it. Was finishing this game worth the suffering? I came back to it a few days later and got the job done. Overall, it was a fun time, and I’d recommend Sonic fans, looking for something with the same vibe, to try it out. Spark the Electric Jester has a target of what it wants to be and absolutely nails it. High speed action with lightning fast combat and a multitude of abilities for both fighting and platforming make a game that flows fantastically once you get the hang of it. An additional unlockable character who plays very differently is icing on the cake. There are a few hiccups here and there (the big one being the pause screen rapidly flashing for some reason) but otherwise this is a fantastic start to Spark's legacy.

game's great! The levels are all really fun, the boss fights are fantastic and the music is really good. Just make sure to install the spark recharged mod or else the game will run horribly.

Let me put it this way, It's rare for me to devote myself to 100%'ing a game that becomes extremely hard by the time the hardest modes are unlocked, but this is so exceptionally well crafted and extremely fun, that it didn't just make me feel forced to do so, it made me want to do it. I've said multiple times that this game is like if Sonic, Megaman, Kirby and Rocket Knight Adventures had a baby, and it came out in the best way possible, and the music and aesthetics is something to behold as well I highly, highly recommend it!
