It hasn't been updated for 2 years now, the last build is designated 0.14.2.6. Unfortunately, it's very likely that it got abandoned. It's not really a game, I got hooked simply because I am interested in the modelling and simulation of evolutionary processes, although it's worth saying that a single CPU can do very little with such a task. In order to be scientifically adequate (i.e. not treating the problem from an individual consumer's perspective), one would need to utilize distributed computing for simulating such complex systems (even protein interactions at cellular level need distributed computing; you can try googling "computational biology"). You'd probably be better off if you save your money for a subscription of Brilliant.org or Curiosity Stream, if you're a naturally curious person. I'm giving it my thumb up just because of the idea behind it.

The creator had made a mention about his mental health awhile ago. I would not expect this to receive attention anymore, but for a few bucks it's already paid for itself. Don't treat it as an outright sim, but more like an idle thing to futz with when you're bored. I don't feel ripped off, more disappointed this gem won't be cut to perfection. Hopefully the dev gets some peace.

Great concept. It's unfinished and has taken way too long in early access, but it's fun as it currently stands. Just be prepared for crashes and a few graphical glitches from time to time. Watching your critters evolve, go extinct, strive, struggle, ascend, descend, sink, swim, etc is very satisfying.

This game is great. It may be a little complicated but you will get used to it. Also the dev made a statement saying he had problems irl and is now continuing the development of the game. SO it is not dead.

I like this game a decent amount. | Okay but in all seriousness, this game has a conceptually fascinating idea. In execution on the other hand? It.. leaves a lot to be desired. But not everything! There are many features-even if they are partially broken some of the time- But they do work in interesting ways nonetheless. I can't tell you the amount of times I've obsessed over specific speciation of a very weird species I just kind of got attached to- Only for the game to crash, and then, EVENTUALLY, for me to crawl right back to the game again as if it never happened. It's an arduous and bone crushing game, with truly WEIRD highs. So! If you're into feeling like you're a God and playing favorites- only for your favorites to almost certainly die due to your own meddling- ( most likely due to you becoming a form of crutch for the species as a whole, causing mutations that let defects form; which run rampant, ESPECIALLY with bottleneck populations, etc)- And/or a simple glitch deleting the ENTIRE save file- Then this game is VERY much for you! And if you're not..? Well, i'm sure you can guess.
