Game is pretty fun, but it has its flaws (Some worse than others). Personally, it reminds me of a "Alien: Isolation" meets "Lethal Company" or "Nuclear Nightmare", with just a sprinkle of GTFO. Me and a friend enjoyed the demo and ended up buying the game and sinking almost 7 hours into it on a non-stop playthrough. While playing, we talked about things we like about it, things we didn't like so much, as well as what was frustrating about the game. Pros [*] Graphically, it looks pretty good. I`m using a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, and can run it on the highest settings with no problems. Lighting is nice, shades look good, metal is shiny, textures are detailed, .etc. Particle effects in the game look especially good. [*] Atmosphere is very well done. Lots of hums, beeps and mechanical noises that fit the environment. Each room and hallway looks unique with little details that distinguish it from other areas, and objects fitting into the scene nicely. It both looks and feels like a spaceship straight out of the Aliens franchise. [*] Audio is very well done. Monsters sound amazing, with great directional and distance sound levels. Doors and computers make noises when you interact with them, which both you and the monsters can hear. The general ambience of each area is rather nice. [*] The monsters look/sound rather amazing and are very distinct from one another. I was very excited to see what each one looked like and what they could do. [*] Every Monster has their own style of hunting you down, as well as their own weakness. (This is both a Pro and a Con though). [*] Actively fighting the Monsters is rather fun *(See CONS). The "virus causing" Monster is especially fun since it changes the playstyle quite a bit. [*] Weapons look and feel really good to use. (Weapon cycling is very buggy though). [*] Items can be purchased and upgraded (Currently 2-3 upgrades per item). [*] You can customize the look of your character and your ship. Customizing your face is surprisingly detailed for a game where you usually wear a helmet. You can change your body type and adjust your body thickness a tiny bit. (Doesn't change your hitbox as far as I can tell). [*] You can interact with various parts of the ship, such as the Power Core, fuel pipes, Engines and Turbines. This is usually done to blow-up the ship and to gain entrance to sealed areas, but it would be cool to have an objective where you must fix the ship instead. [*] Devs are actively enganging with the players, and even posting polls/trends they noticed (M&K Users vs Controller Users, most/least used tools, solo vs multiplayer, etc.), showing they are paying attention to their fans and refining their game. Mixed [*] Currently, you can only change the colors of your suit and ship using an HSV slider. I suspect this will become more detailed in later development. I hope I can decorate my ship a tiny bit with posters or objects. [*] Your selection of Hair, hair color, facial hair, etc is a bit limited, but I suspect more will be added in. (Not super important to me). [*] You will start a mission unarmed or with a pistol. Stronger weapons MUST be procured on site. (No upgrading/customizing weapons). [*] Doing a mission when the Power is already on CAN (and often WILL) result in the monster attacking you as soon as you step off the shuttle, and perma-killing a player before you can even reach the first Respawn Station. (I suspect this will be fixed soon). [*] Doing a mission when the Power randomly turns on and off is often more frustrating than scary. It likes to turn off roughly every 2-3 minutes, resulting in needing to backtrack constantly, hunkering down for several minutes waiting for it to turn back on, or leaving someone with the sole job of guarding the only "Power On" button in the ship. I am hoping they either increase the time between power toggling off, or allow the power randomly turning off to effect only sections of the ship, rather than the whole thing. [*] Despite 7 Monster types being listed in the in-game's computer files, only 5 are actually in the game, with 1 being quite rare apparently. We replayed missions dozens of times looking for the other 2 before we looked it up and saw they weren't actually implemented yet. They all leave unique wounds on the corpses you find too, which removes the detective work and let's you know what you are dealing with almost the moment you leave your shuttle. (I`m hoping this is more for Early Alpha testing, and that they will start having overlapping "tells", requiring us to do some investigation before figuring out what the Monster is.) [*] In-game's computer files tell you how to kill the monsters and how to avoid them, right at the start, which removes some of the fear of dealing with them. (Might only be for EA testing phase though) Cons [*] My biggest complaint would be that the ship has the same exact layout every single time. While weapons and consumables are somewhat randomized, the ship itself does not change... At All... Rooms will always be in the same spot, The Blackbox you must retrieve will always be in the same room, The route to enter/escape the ship during a meltdown will always be the same, and the 4 Required Monster-Killing weapons will either be in the locked dorms or in Engine Room A and B. Doors that are open/locked will always be the same for each mission as well. There is no deviation between missions of the same type. This VERY quickly kills the fun factor since nothing changes in terms of gameplay. No new routes, no sudden surprises as one door malfunctions to close you off, no needing to search newer/alternative areas to progress. You stop bringing the portable mini-map and just memorize everything. I am aware (as a programmer/developer myself) creating a 100% randomized ship would probably be a near system overhaul, but I am hoping they will at least throw in a few extra rooms and hallways as alternate routes and then shuffle which doors will be locked/broken, to help spice it up a bit between gameplay. [*] The instructions on how to hurt/kill/avoid monsters is very, Very, VERY specific. [*] The Monster that "leaves a hole in your forehead" is especially annoying, as he just follows you and your friend non-stop and he cannot be hurt/driven away until you find the appropriate special weapon. He tends to "ride your ass" too, resulting in him just blocking your path non-stop. It isn't scary or dangerous. It just becomes annoying. (Once you find the weapon that breaks his shield, he is actually rather fun to fight though. It is just getting to that point that is a slog). [*] There is health/armor in this game, but seeing as how 3 out of the 5 Monsters use an insta-kill move on you and the 4th causes a 1-minute-till-death timer, it feels sort of pointless. Summary Despite its flaws and annoyances, me and my friend DID enjoy the game for nearly 7 hours straight. It is still in Early Access, so I figure there will be a few adjustments and tweaks needed, but currently the replay value is a bit short-lived. If you and your friends are interested, I would say go ahead and get it or at the very least try out the Demo (which also allows multiplayer!). But if you are a bit skeptical, I would say wait for a few more patches to come out or before you try to recommend it to a friend to buy. This is a MUST FOLLOW game, either way though. It shows a lot of promise and you can clearly see the gem that lies underneath all of the grime. Just give the devs a bit more time to patch, tweak and polish the game, and I suspect we will see a beautiful diamond that we can enjoy with our friends for quite awhile.
