Somehow simple yet complex, but most of all, ludicrously addictive. Chaining together spells gets really fun, even if for balance and programming reasons there's a little less in the way of triggers and spell-altering application methods than you might think initially. My only complaints are that 1: the movement, and whether you'll be able to hit an enemy or an enemy will be able to hit you, is a bit unclear and a bit finicky, and 2: that there's very little variety in enemies, which gets noticeable later on.

This is absolutely one of my favourite games of the decade. Whilst the combat may be seemingly simple on top, the sheer flexibility and options offered to you mean that there is always something new for you to try and tinker with each run, as you find little niche interactions that allow for tactics you never dreamed were possible. Where this game really shines though is in the multiplayer, as if you have friends to play with the possibility for insane combos only exponentially grows and can create some really memorable moments. I won't lie, you will occasionally encounter slight bugs or odd quirks but they really interfere with the game in meaningful ways and even when they do its normally just funny. It is not the sort of game where you sit down and grind it out relentlessly but there is no other game where whenever there is a new update, whether it be a new spell sytem or a localisation update where I think to myself "man I should see if my friends are around to play a quick game of spellmasons", only to end up spending the entire night on it.

This game has a lot of potential. The spell building and combos are really fun, however the main gameplay loop still needs to be improved. Currently you get spawned into an area that is mostly circular in nature, rarely getting any cover other than maybe an edge on the wall. Once you reach level 5 or beyond it becomes almost impossible to fight properly. You cannot use the environment to take out the horde of enemies swarming you and/or standing right outside of your reach, as they will always be further than you. So what strategy can you take? Well, you simply have to kill them before they get a turn. However with the slow scaling in mana and health and other passive effects you cannot really keep up with how quick the game progresses. I firmly believe better battlemaps might solve a large part of the issues, especially with the amount of ranged enemies. It would also promote portal use. Otherwise the scaling of passives needs to be adjusted to properly accomodate for what the game asks of you.

After about 4hrs of beating my head against the wall, trying to learn how to play the game and actually getting past the first boss i basically turned the game into a point & click adventure with the enemies being Bags of Mana waiting to get in me and realizing at lv 6+ i prob could go infinite. So yeah Great game, highly recommend

This is one of those "One more run" sorts of games. Each run is totally different from the last. It gives tons of room for creativity in both builds and just how you play. Very often my friends and I will say, "Wanna play some Spellmasons while we think of what else to hop into?" only to play Spellmasons until the wee hours of the morning, because time just flies when you're having fun finding new ways to "accidentally" kill your friends. If you don't like how that run ended or made a misclick, there's autosaving and the ability to load saves. While I understand why these sorts of games generally don't allow saves, being able to go back and correct a mistake can be great. Sometimes you have the perfect build going and just have a brainfart. This game respects your time by allowing you to reload the save if you want, while still allowing you to suffer the consequences of your actions should you wish. Amazing game. Amazing and responsive developer. Awesome modification support and acceptance. Overall, the perfect strategy spellcrafting game if you have only minutes or hours to play
