7/10 As an old Spore fan, Strange Seed immediately caught my attention. Gameplay: The creature-building and evolution mechanics are genuinely fun. Progression is fast, and the learning curve is easy enough that both adults and kids can jump right in. Within minutes you're creating bizarre creatures, experimenting with mutations, and discovering what works—and what hilariously doesn't. It's a cozy little game with a lot of charm and a surprising amount of potential. Flaws: Unfortunately, the combat feels underdeveloped. Most encounters, including bosses, boil down to: Press attack. Wait 1–2 seconds. Attack happens. Move. Repeat. After a while, combat feels more like a timer than a challenge. Suggestions: I would love to see a meaningful death penalty system. Something like losing a portion of your DNA points would make survival and progression feel more rewarding and give combat more weight. That said, the biggest issue wasn't the gameplay. After about 10 hours of playing with my kids—who absolutely loved the game—we logged in on day four and were greeted with a message that essentially said: "Your save file is corrupted and has been deleted. Have a nice day." The kids were crushed. Conclusion The foundation for a fantastic game is here, and I genuinely hope the developers keep building on it. There's a gem hidden beneath the rough edges, but right now it needs more time in the oven. We probably won't be coming back soon. But maybe one day, after a few more updates and some much-needed polish, we'll give it another chance. 7/10 ______________________________________________________________ Update Credit where credit is due. After posting this review, the developers reached out and provided guidance on how to recover the corrupted save files. Thanks to their help, the saves were rescued, and I got to pretend to be a superhero dad who had somehow managed to save the kids' game from certain doom. The smiles returned, the creatures survived, and family gaming night was back on track. A special thank you to Chronicle - Chris for the support and guidance. It was genuinely appreciated.
came here nostalgic for spore wanting a nonsensical creature creator. not quite what i was expecting in that regard -- way less sandboxy and way more adventure and story focused, in the best way. had much more fun than i thought i would and found myself intrigued by the world my critter found himself in. also some parts of this game are hard which was a wonderful surprise for me :) well worth the price and i think if youre considering this game to give it a try as its super duper charming and the writing is genuinely entertaining
This game is really fun, but honestly, if I could give a middling review I would. It's fun but there are a lot of problems. It is really prone to bugs and bad hitboxes, the keyboard and mouse controls feel really bad. This game has a great idea with really fun concepts, I love the creature building and the concepts put forward, but the game still needs a good bit of work. I am excited for the next big update but I do hope some of the bugs are smoothed out and the controls are improved. Especially with gene-snake as it is very clear the game was made controller first which kinda sucks for players like myself who lack a controller. The combat could also use some work as it is incredibly basic and is not that interesting, the only real difficulty to it is if you can pass the damage check of a boss. The combat system could really use a rework, but, this game feels almost like a sequel to Cubivore, and I love it, but I hope some of the issues get worked out eventually. Overall, games alright.
Hello friends, Today I will review the game Strange Seed. This is a indie game with the same mechanics the game spore had years ago. The graphics are not really anything special, but the game is fun enough to play in. The game needs work though. I personally found issues with clipping parts of the body, terrain that is uneven, and some other small things. As long as the developer keeps working on it and refining it, the game could be fine. But at this point, unless you really liked the creature part of spore, i would avoid it until more bugs are fixed. The game is interesting for a indie game. As said previously, as long as the developer keeps working on it, it could turn out well. The game recreates the creature stage in the spore game. Basically, the player starts out as a small blob. By finding different animal parts, the player can increase the blob's abilities and functions. There are also special growth items that allow the player to increase the size of their blob too. There are several different areas with different animals to get parts from. A forest area, a beach area, a plains area, and even a volcano area. Each area has it's own hidden items to find and bosses to get parts from. Note that bosses do not tend to drop all their parts, so players may have to find them other places around the world. Anyways, here are my pros and cons list: PROS: - A game that lets players make their own creatures to move and play around the game's world. - Hidden skins and some side quests to do in each area. - Different environments to explore and find things. CONS: - Several clipping bugs with combination of body parts. Also some terrain clipping issues. - The graphics are not the best looking, but they work ok for what the game is. - The fact there is only one item that lets you light up dark places is bad, in my opinion. I believe the game needs more items to brighten dark places. Do I recommend this game? It can be fun, if you like messing around with different parts to make weird looking creatures. When i personally played it, I did have fun experimenting with different combinations of animal parts. Some of the parts are hard to find, such as the skins. Player may need to look high and low for some of them. There are still some bugs in it, but as long as the developer continues to work on the game, it could be better. I hope this developer does not cash out and run like some developers do. I hope this developer keeps working on their game, as i believe this game could be their masterpiece.
Do you like Spore? Or maybe some other game about evolution? Well, you'll LOVE this game. Strange Seed is a silly little game about conquering your enemies, and using their parts to evolve and make anything your heart desires. This game combines silliness, strategy, and puzzles all into one absorbing experience. I would HIGHLY recommend this game to everyone I know, and don't. Strange Seed will truly have a special place in my life forever, and go down in my hall of gaming.
