A neat, very little game. Clocking in around 3 hours, it's a linear text-based narrative experience that is a straight march from start to finish, with primarily aesthetic differences between playthroughs, and a few puzzles that aren't particularly challenging. The story's strength lies in its structure. You are a detective Tek, an intelligent robot, working on a mystery, but due to your programming you can't leave a metro, giving the game the vibe of a chamber play. You meet other Teks and through them, learn about the world beyond the metro car and its people, politics, and mysteries. It's interesting and fun, but not earth-shaking. Many of the plot points and setting elements are familiar (characters explicitly cite "Asimov's laws" of robotics as being part of the setting's structure), but there are memorable and resonant moments throughout. The visuals and music are gorgeous and carry the game along. The game makes an interesting choice in its final scene to that incorporates player choice directly in a way that is provoking and makes the whole experience worthwhile. Pick it up if you're interested in a small, self-contained text-adventure. I recommend waiting for a sale.
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I first played this game, going in blind...but after finishing a fullplay thru, I would describe Subsurface Circular as a 3D visual novel. Maybe you might be looking for something more ; this game is a text-based intensive tale of mystery and the train carriage is the back drop of the entire play. Nevertheless I found the story compelling, the characters interesting and the ending unexpected. If you enjoy a well polished futuristic 3D visual novel, then you may like this one. It may not be in the upper sci-fi realms of a Phillip K. D*ck pulp paperback but the world woven in Subsurface Circular is defintely food for thought. :)
