March 2026
Updating my review. Still positive, but I'm shortening it up and going to summarize my thoughts about the game now that I'm quite a few hours in. I think the game is a good addition to the genre. It has depth and some interesting synergy features. However, it begins to suffer from some micromanagement issues as you expand, even with some features to help with that. But more features are needed. I think this is where the game is beginning to feel tiresome to me. I'm constantly having to bounce around my different departments to keep them productive. As my studio has grown, I have found that the game has slowed down a lot because I spend so much time tending to my departments. I don't agree with some points from negative reviews, such as calling it a direct copy/paste of Mad Games Tycoon. It is not. In fact it is far more interesting than Mad Games Tycoon. I own that one and it never did hold my interest and I had just given it another try before picking this one up. Another critique is that the tutorial is super bad. It may not be perfect, but I'm sorry, if you couldn't learn this game from what the tutorial provided...well, I am not here to be mean. I'm just saying the problem may just be that you are not getting it. I have played far far worse tutorials that never even got critiqued like this one. There have been some other mechanics added to the game, so, maybe that is where there is a disconnect. One issue that I have with the game is that some of the mechanics seem half finished or maybe just need a bit more polish. For example, animation was recently added, but there are no tool tips that tell you what a technique actually does, so, I'm just picking whatever and I certainly do not want to go online to learn about them. You can just pick the more expensive ones because they are assumed to be better, but I would prefer that it works like the filming techniques, which possess three recommended movie genres and three not recommended movie genres. I guess that this doesn't apply to animation??? Even if that were so, it would be nice to have an idea how to better synergize my choice of techniques. If the developer continues to work on it and listen to feed back, and implement the right changes, it could be a gem for the genre.

This game is easy to get into and fun at first, but it gets a bit repetitive after a while. More personality and random events would really help keep things fresh.

It's literally just Mad Games Tycoon with a movie studio overlay. The tutorial is insanely slow, the gameplay is a bit rough around the edges and your success is complete luck on if you get a hit or if you quickly go bankrupt (I bankrupted at least 5/6 times before I got lucky). Still looking for a true successor to The Movies but, with a few more updates and bit more polish, this can be a decent alternative.

So far so good, the game is great and I haven't encountered a game breaking bug on my end. I didn't do the tutorial because I played the demo, which that helped. Having to click and pick up your employees can be a bit repetitive and micro management which kind of sucks, especially when you have over 50+ employees and 50% of them are actors/directors. I would recommend this game to everyone and to people who liked Mad Games Tycoon 2 and that love making movies. I'm really looking forward to future updates. Devs GREAT JOB!
