Sweet Pool isn’t a horror game built on shock. Its impact comes from atmosphere, intimacy, and the slow, quiet way it settles into the player. It asks you to sit with discomfort rather than react to it, and it does so with care and restraint. At its center is Youji, a protagonist whose fragility shapes the entire narrative. His relationships are not presented as simple romance, but as different kinds of pressure. Zenya’s protectiveness drifts toward possession and obsession unrestrained, Makoto’s concern carries an undercurrent of control, and Tetsuo approaches Youji with a more aggressive, unsettling curiosity. Each connection reflects a different way of needing someone, and none of them are clean or uncomplicated. Because of this, in my opinion, Sweet Pool resists being reduced to a straightforward “BL” story. Affection, dependence, fear, and desire overlap in ways that feel human rather than idealized. The game allows care to be sincere while still being flawed—and sometimes harmful—without simplifying those contradictions. Body horror is used sparingly and thoughtfully, emerging only after emotional boundaries have already been crossed. Physical deterioration mirrors internal collapse, reinforcing the themes of bodily autonomy and vulnerability rather than serving as spectacle. This is not a story about empowerment or easy healing. Survival here is quiet and uncertain, shaped by closeness and compromise. Whether that survival preserves the self or erodes it is left deliberately ambiguous at times. Sweet Pool is unsettling, but also careful and compassionate. It lingers not because it shocks, but because it treats its characters—and the discomfort they live with—seriously. If there was ever a remake or continuation, I would wholeheartedly buy and read without hesitation!

this may look like the most normal n+c vn, competing with kemonomimis, an utopic japan and a post apocaliptic japan, since the story just takes place in a school, with normal students doing normal student stuff..... ........till they make mpreg possible

It's about menstruation, it's about birth, it's about eating the body of christ in a literal sense, it's about the omegaverse, it's about how women are treated, it's about the horrors of being a woman, it's about having to come to terms with being a woman, it's about how women find the least-worse man in a sea of terrible men, it's about dying, it's about living, it's about how forever is non existent, it's about puberty, it's about growth, it's about loving yourself as you are. NOTE: I cannot, in good faith, recommend this to anyone who doesn't like The D™, has problems with seeing The D™, has some sort of religious-base trauma, has not played all of Dramatical Murder, and cannot get real cool real fast about the inevitable serious consent issues that are in a 20+ year old yaoi game.

sweet pool was... an interesting experience. After loving DRAMAtical Murder, I wanted to play all of Nitro+CHiRAL's titles, and I started this "little challenge" with sweet pool. I really liked the choice system with instinct and reason — it keeps you from really knowing what you're choosing and helps maintain the surprise. Plus, it’s a refreshing change from other games in the genre. That said, I found it a bit disappointing that sometimes the choices didn’t really match what you’d expect from instinct or reason. The story was also really cool — strange, but I still really enjoyed it. You just need to be prepared, because there are a lot of trigger warnings and it definitely won’t be for everyone. But if DRAMAtical Murder didn’t bother you, I think you’ll be fine with this one too. However, if you go for the Steam version, be aware that it's censored — and the censorship is really poorly done, since it skips over important parts that are crucial for understanding the story. The uncensor patch is available on the American publisher’s website (or you can get the full uncensored game directly from there instead)!
