Togainu no Chi is a beautifully written choice based adult visual novel. The overall story is extremely well written and easy to follow. As much as I'd like to call this piece "good representation" for LGBTQ+ media, I ultimately cannot. Not only is our character never explicitly gay or bisexual, etc- but he's mostly just forced into it by the "love" interests. This is very typical of eroge, and it's probably the tamest I've played with these heavy and **detailed** depictions of rape. The endings are good. Like I said, the story is almost perfect. To say this is a romance is a bit steep, but I definitely felt a deep connection to Keisuke. Endings are very abrupt and the h-scenes (while patched) are good. They don't run nearly as long as other visual novels which is appreciated- but if you're playing for the NSFW, you're in for a lot of story based gameplay first. The Steam version (unpatched) is very very well done. This is a rarity amongst visual novels. I did my first play through unpatched to get all of the achievements (with some help from community guides), and it honestly did not disappoint. Unlike other games, Togainu no Chi keeps about 80% of its content and storyline. You will still get your money's worth buying the game without the NSFW content. This is a multi-ending choice based VN, so if you're not into grindy storylines or arent really interested in getting the completionist award, you can skip playing it unpatched. The patch for Togainu no Chi cost around $5 on JASTUSA and it does exactly what it's supposed to. To be completely honest, I definitely would have been happy saving my money and just playing through the steam version. The scenarios are that good and the plot is incredibly detailed. As for the H-scenes, you get very few compared to other games (which definitely surprised me), they arent very long and they add absolutely nothing to the story IMO. The only route where I felt it necessary was Keisuke. Can you tell I really love him? There is A LOT of rape... like... a lot. Our protagonist is just a straight up victim. If we look past this, the scenes are honestly pretty good and not grotesque- so I could actually sit through them. The overall differences between the patched/unpatched version are very slim. I honestly didnt even notice a huge different. Some of the endings are exactly the same. Arbitro's ending, for example, has no changes (and IMO was just very disappointing). They don't really hold back on the language they use like other VNs do, they still talk about mutilating dead corpses and raping and whatnot, so don't be scared about missing out on context! My favourite part of the whole experience was the sound design/music. Seriously, WOW! When characters are fighting, you can truly immerse yourself. When a character positions themselves, they made sure to include the appropriate sound effect (i.e moving off of sheets vs moving up off the ground). The music, dont get me started! It's PERFECT. I have never in my life felt the need to call everyone I know and force them to listen to visual novel sounds/music/openings in the way I did with Togainu no Chi. Each song is perfectly curated to the mood of the scene. I've played quite a few visual novels with beautiful sound immersion, but something about it here just HIT DIFFERENT. Between the voice acting, sound design and music composition... I truly felt as though I was in post war drug fighting town lol. 100000/10. Hope this review helps a bit :) Keisuke best boy!
