OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos is a charming yuri visual novel that embraces romantic comedy with remarkable confidence. Developed by SukeraSomero and published by HUBLOTS and mirai works, the game revolves around a delightfully absurd premise that quickly blossoms into a surprisingly heartfelt romance. The story follows Akuru Hayahoshi, an office worker whose life revolves around mobile gacha games and her devotion to fictional husbandos. Her ordinary routine is disrupted when she meets Ren Furutachi, a wealthy and energetic young woman whose incredible luck seems to be the complete opposite of Akuru's misfortune. A misunderstanding during their first encounter convinces Ren that Akuru has proposed marriage, and from that moment onward, Ren pursues her with relentless enthusiasm. The narrative's greatest strength lies in the chemistry between its two protagonists. Akuru is initially skeptical, awkward, and completely unprepared for genuine romance, making her reactions consistently entertaining. Ren, on the other hand, approaches life with boundless confidence and sincerity, creating a dynamic that fuels both the comedy and the emotional progression of the story. Much of the game's humor comes from Akuru's desperate attempts to resist Ren's advances while Ren remains convinced that destiny has brought them together. What could have easily become a one-note joke instead develops into a surprisingly sweet relationship that gradually reveals the vulnerabilities and desires hidden beneath each character's surface. The writing does an excellent job of balancing exaggerated comedy with genuine romantic development. The premise itself is intentionally ridiculous, yet the game commits to it wholeheartedly, allowing players to become invested in the relationship despite the unlikely circumstances. The dialogue is lively and frequently humorous, particularly when highlighting Akuru's obsession with fictional characters and her tendency to prioritize virtual relationships over real ones. The story also pokes fun at modern otaku culture, gacha gaming habits, and romantic clichés without ever feeling mean-spirited. This combination of self-aware humor and sincere affection gives the narrative much of its charm. Visually, the game is one of the stronger entries in the genre. The character artwork is vibrant and expressive, bringing the cast to life through detailed portraits and beautifully illustrated event scenes. Ren and Akuru are immediately recognizable thanks to their distinct designs, and the visual presentation consistently reinforces their contrasting personalities. The CG artwork is especially impressive during key romantic moments, helping elevate emotional scenes and making important story developments feel memorable. The overall aesthetic is colorful and inviting, perfectly matching the cheerful tone of the narrative. The voice acting contributes significantly to the experience. The performances capture the personalities of the characters exceptionally well, enhancing both the comedic timing and emotional impact of important scenes. Ren's enthusiasm and Akuru's flustered reactions feel authentic largely because of the strong vocal performances. The soundtrack complements the story effectively with a collection of upbeat, playful, and occasionally sentimental tracks that reinforce the game's romantic atmosphere. While the music may not be particularly groundbreaking, it consistently supports the mood and helps maintain immersion throughout the story. As a visual novel, gameplay is intentionally simple. Players primarily read dialogue, follow the unfolding story, and make occasional choices that influence the outcome. The game's relatively short length means that it can be completed within a few hours, making it accessible to newcomers and easy to revisit for alternate endings. Some players may wish for additional routes, more branching choices, or a longer campaign, but the concise structure also prevents the story from becoming repetitive. Every scene serves a purpose, and the pacing remains consistently engaging from beginning to end. One of the game's most appealing qualities is its accessibility. Even players unfamiliar with yuri visual novels can easily enjoy the story because it focuses on universal themes of affection, personal growth, and emotional vulnerability. Rather than relying solely on genre-specific appeal, the game succeeds through strong character writing and a genuinely entertaining romance. Fans of romantic comedies will find plenty to enjoy regardless of their prior experience with visual novels. The primary drawback is that the experience feels somewhat limited by its length. The central relationship is compelling enough that many players will wish for more time with the characters. Supporting cast members receive less development than they arguably deserve, and certain story elements could have benefited from deeper exploration. Nevertheless, the focused scope also ensures that the narrative remains engaging and avoids unnecessary filler. Overall, OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos is a delightful romantic comedy that combines lovable characters, strong visual presentation, entertaining humor, and heartfelt romance into a highly enjoyable package. Its simple premise evolves into a surprisingly touching story that succeeds because of the genuine chemistry between its leads. Although its short runtime may leave players wanting more, the quality of its writing and presentation makes it an easy recommendation for fans of visual novels and romantic storytelling. I absolutely adore this game and these two silly girls. The story is short and a little bit cheesy but deeply charming and endearing. The writing and pacing, for something meant to be lighthearted and fun, is handled very well. It takes itself seriously when it needs to and honest to goodness had me watery-eyed at certain points. I'm going to be buying the second game the second I have the funds to do so. While I did not personally find it upsetting enough to affect my opinion on the game, you might want to be aware that the game likes to eat save files and tends to boot up in Japanese every time you open it. It only takes a few hours to finish so I'd recommend committing and doing a playthrough in one sitting.

This is a solid yuri visual novel. Aesthetically it's really great -- beautiful art, great character designs, backgrounds, and so on. I also really enjoyed having an otaku MC in a yuri VN, not something we see enough of. But I was left a little bit disappointed by rather bland characterizations that made it hard for the story to be resonate with me in any meaningful way.
