I could've SWORN this was Hades except it has 4 player co-op, but less depth. If the upgrades were more impactful rather than just x% more damage or do x% damage over time then it could be more interesting.

A Pretender To The Throne When Oscar Wilde said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I believe he had Sworn in mind. Sworn is a decent game that will forever live in the shadows of a truly great game that "inspired" it -- Hades. Sworn steals pretty much every thing that was not locked and nailed down by Super Giant, so much so that it almost leaves a bad taste. It's so much of a clone, that you start to think, "Maybe Nintendo has a point", and that's something I never thought I'd be saying. So Sworn pretty much lives and dies by how well it executes Hades formula, and the answer to that question is "It's good, but not as good". On the plus side, it has 4 different playable characters, each with 4 unique weapons and 4 unique spells, so there is a decent amount of variety here. The game also has co-op, so if that's important to you, you may want to give this game a try. I'm a solo player, so it didn't matter. Combat feels okay, with a slower pace than Hades. There's a small window where attacks can leave you vulnerable, and a ever so slight cool down on dodge. It's just enough of a different pacing that you never get into "flow" state. There's always a split second where you are making a conscious choice to attack, move, or dodge. It's also just enough that when you take damage, you feel like it was "cheap". The game is very stingy with health, so a more defensive play style is often needed. You'll also find that the bosses are fairly easy, as it's easy to handle 1 single enemy. You are only really in danger when taking on multiple enemies at the same time. Progression is decent. Of course, you start under powered, but you quickly get access to all kinds of upgrades. It does start to feel just a bit of a grind as you get about 75% of your way through the game, as each play through starts to take 30-40 minutes to complete. However, after after 24 hours and completing on Squire and Knight difficulty, I was ready to call it quits. Post game is just enemies being more health sponges while adding more and more environmental damage. Story wise, there is no story. The Camelot setting is just window dressing, there's no depth to it or characterization. I disliked the idea of King Arthur "breaking bad" and the fae, who are basically demons, being the "good guys". Not everything needs to be edgy and dark, especially when there's no real story it's in service of. I would have much rather have a game where the knights of the round table are the ones giving you blessings. This review may sound negative, but I had a good time playing Sworn. It's not a bad game to burn a weekend on, but it's never going to dethrone Hades and Hades II.

If you enjoy Hades for its gameplay or have always wanted a multiplayer version of it, look no further. Don’t hesitate to pick this game up on sale. Does it blatantly copy countless mechanics and features from Hades? Absolutely. Is it a pale imitation? Absolutely not. While it doesn’t come close to Hades in terms of art or story, there are moments of gameplay where SWORN truly outshines its inspiration.

Solid core game, good responsive inputs and overall fun combat, only lacking at the moment in content. Heavily inspired gameplay-wise by Hades. No issues with online coop with friends from the same region. You'll probably beat the all the current bosses at around 10 hours at the normal difficulty. Keep in mind that the main bosses are based on the 12 knights of the round and we only have access to 3 of the knights (1 knight per area) + 2 variations of sub-bosses per area and 1 "final" boss as of the current build so there is a lot of room for content to be added to the game. Current gameplay loop is linked to character builds and the difficulty levels. There are 4 characters each with their own 4 unique weapons and 4 unique spells, so there is room for a lot of builds/runs. For the current build, the average player would probably get about 20-25 hours of fun with the existing gameplay loop (10 hours if just playing to clear the final boss of the current build once). I'd say it's worth a buy if playing with friends, but otherwise if you're playing solo then I would wait till more content gets added.

It's absolutely a Hades knock-off. Does that stop it from being fun as hell? Not at all. Great game.
