The buggy launch must have wrecked this game's reception because the patched version (2025. november 26.) that I played felt polished and nice. "Remaster" is kind of a misnomer because while this is a mostly faithful recreation of the original game it's a full 3D remake in terms of visuals. And it looks great, the devs managed to maintain the atmosphere and I really liked the new, more cinematic camera style. That being said a fixed camera mode that accurately remakes the original camera angles would be a nice extra. There are a few controversial things too: first, it's strange that the pre-rendered cutscenes weren't remade. They were cleaned up rather nicely to look okay in high resolutions but there is a huge contrast between the shiny new Unity graphics and the old cutscenes. Also: the voice acting didn't change from the original and while that's super nostalgic the performances and some of the dialogue was absolutey not up to modern standards. A new English translation would have benefitted the writing greatly here. What I'm absolutely not mixed about though is the item / area of interest highlights. I get that some fans feel that the lack of pixel hunting makes the remaster dumber than the original but Syberia was always a deliberately easy point and click adventure so the item markers fit that general design. It's good stuff overall, here's hoping for Syberia 2 getting the same treatment slightly better executed.

I have very mixed feelings about this remaster. In the way this remaster was made it’s closer to remasters of Tomb Raider games where gameplay adopted for current gen systems, gameplay visuals rebuilded, but cutscene just upscaled. But in a much worse way, unfortunately. Some cutscenes run in 4:3, some in 16:9, even the team added new ones, but made in awful quality to be similar to upscaled ones. In my opinion it is a very lazy approach and I can't tolerate it. Right now the game has some rough edges like traversal hitches, stutters, awful shadows, performance issues, minor bugs and glitches. Still feels like more or less a solid remaster which is allowing you to come back to an amazing Syberia world. But it must be fixed. Developers please stop releasing not finished products! Or you will not be supported. In my opinion the game deserves a more careful approach and without a second chapter this remaster feels incomplete. Steam is not allowed to give a “middle” score, so it would be “like”, but…

Please, please remaster the cutscenes - to my alien eyes they look rough. The in-game graphics are actually quite lovely, but the pre-rendered scenes feel like they were pulled straight from a time capsule, and not in a charming way. I also ran into a technical hiccup: right after leaving the lawyer’s office, during Dan’s call, the interface completely disappeared on me. The animations were still happening but I couldn’t move or interact with anything. Had to go full ALT+F4 escape pod maneuver. One more thing: the Russian localization could use another pass. The general translation is fine, but letters and faxes aren’t translated directly in the scene - you have to click on them to get a pop-up translation. It breaks the flow and pulls you out of the experience. Overall though, the core gameplay graphics are great, and it’s a pleasure to revisit Syberia. Just hoping the devs iron out these rough edges, because the heart of the game is still beautiful. Update: Due to many bugs in the release, I no longer recommend it. I will gladly revisit this score once devs fix issues.

Let's start with negatives: 1) The cutscenes that were pre-rendered in the original? Those are just upscaled and whenever those start it's incredibly jarring, because they look horrible 2) All character animations are atrocious. 3) There are a couple of bugs which caused me to restart the game to fix Now let's talk general game: It's nostalgic. If you haven't played the original you'll get a simple adventure game, which looks incredible 99% of the time. If you have played the original - you'll get a game that looks like you think the original looked, when you were a kid. I can't overstate how beautifully all of the locations were transferred to full 3D. Game is stunning to look at, when you aren't looking at characters or cutscenes. The rest is fine-ish. Gameplay is not changed to keyboard controls, it's still point and click. Inventory system is simplified and thus UI is changed (which I'm sad about, cause that UI was so freaking stylish back in the day), but it's more in line with Syberia The World Before and modern standards for adventure games. There are also 2 difficulties, one is basically holding your hand and showing you exact objectives you have, the other makes the game play like the original. Puzzles are literally the same, dialogues are the same, it's the same game with a very beautiful coat of paint on top, which has a couple of smudges here and there. I don't think it can replace the original like some remakes do, but it's a worthy addition that doesn't ruin what made the original great. And to those who think that it tarnishes Benoit's legacy or something - I need you to take a deep breath, take off rose-tinted glasses, and think about Syberia 3, which Benoit not only approved, but actually helped make. This remaster is leagues ahead of that horrible, horrible third game.

They have kept the original sound, voices and cutscenes!!! A wonderful news for any original player! ( Although I can definitely see how that can confuse players, that haven't played the old game, perhaps an added option with a remastered version is in order? ). Syberia I and II still remain one of my comfort games, all these years later and as it gets harder and harder to play them on modern machines without technical issues, this release is like a nice breath of air. Some puzzles are missing, others are reworked, which gives a slightly different experience. The gameplay feels smooth, although I have encountered ocassional stuttering and audio/visuals desync, especially during the cutscenes. Some things feel out of proportion or outright disconnected from the world, such as the velocity of which the factory's automatons and mill wheel move, the absent active factory humming, the speed of the church's elevator ( poor Kate ), the absence of the page turning sounds, or the mausoleum automaton's head mistake. And since when could Kate draw, not rub-sketch the mammoth? Nothing gamebreaking but they sure do not contribute to the whole feel of the game at the moment. The only problem I have with the game so far is the interface of the gameplay. Not the absence of the original menu or the reworked UI design (the old one felt a little bit easier to navigate through all held items and documents), but the POI indicators. What is the purpose of a hidden lever behind a book if the game is going to tell you to click this particular book? An option to turn off this option would be great! And somehow everything is so shiny, even the rust is in pristine shiny condition. Overall, a must have game for any original player and a really good option for any point and click enjoyer!
