(Spoiler-free) Syberia - The World Before is an adventure game with a beautiful narrative and engaging story. It is a continuation of the Syberia series telling the story of Kate Walker for the fourth time. There is a pretty good chance that this is the last game of the series because the man responsible for writing the story is no longer among living. I must confess that this is the first game of the series that I played. I haven’t had a chance to play previous titles but I plan on fixing that mistake. I am giving this game a recommended rating, however, I do not completely agree with it. Something in between positive and negative would be more accurate. In my opinion there were some aspects of the game that heavily influenced it in a negative way. When you launch the game, you will be greeted with a beautiful piano melody and Dana’s pleasing face in the main menu. It already creates a good vibe that’s gonna accompany you until the end. The game is narrated in a very beautiful way. The story is deep and will keep you engaged throughout the whole experience. The locations and graphics will surely take your breath away as they were made with attention to detail. The characters are well-written, explicit and likeable (with a few exceptions). The team responsible for making this game put a lot of effort into making our first impression very strong. It worked on me. I was amazed by the experience that was presented to me and it made me wanna keep playing and discovering the story. There are two main characters and both ladies have very nice and charming personalities. You will absolutely love them both and will root for them the whole time. This may sound absurd but in my opinion the worst aspect of this game is that it is an adventure game. Allow me to explain. Syberia series is known for being filled with puzzles. You can encounter them in basically every location. There is always something you have to do in order to be able to proceed with the story. It’s a bit forced in my opinion. The problem is that those puzzles get ridiculously difficult. They get so complex that you may spend literally hours trying to figure them out and fail. Even with a guide some puzzles were taking me half an hour to an hour to complete. So you get a little bit of story, a difficult puzzle, some more story and another puzzle. It basically looks like this and I don’t like it. I understand that there are people who love those puzzles and may even play the game for the sole purpose of solving the puzzles but I am not one of them. It affected my experience quite a lot. What I also didn’t like was the camera. You have no control over it and it adjusts itself based on where your character is currently standing. I experienced a few bugs and glitches and they are all connected to the camera. Somebody did a pretty bad job there. I often found my character going in a completely different direction than the one I have been choosing for it to go to because I have been clicking on some invisible wall. Having experienced it once or twice, I would have ignored it but I had problems like this more often than I would want to. In summary, this is an exceptional game that everyone should play for the story. I think that it is that good. The game gives a good vibe which accompanies you throughout the whole experience. The characters and locations also leave an enormous impression. Unfortunately, there are also aspects like the camera or forced absurdly difficult puzzles that take a lot of time to solve which can affect your experience in a negative way. Despite that, I would still recommend trying it for yourself. The things that were problems for me may not be for you. Oh my goodness. This is a tough one to review. First off, if you haven't played any of the other Syberia games, do 'not' start with this one. Go back to game one. Do it now. I'm late to the Syberia party so I've played all four games starting December 2024. So no 'years waiting for me'. The pros of this game is it has very good graphics - the scenery is well done, and there's a blending together of storylines which we've all wanted to see continue with Kate, and now Dana. The cons: It's basically a 10+ hour long movie. This isn't a puzzle game. I played for 14 hours and it has 4 to 5 actual puzzles in it that make you think. The rest of it is: Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk - walk a bit - video video video - talk talk talk - click - walk - talk talk talk - video - basic puzzle (!) - talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk …and...repeat! I swear this game should not be classified as a puzzle game, it's a movie-like stroll through the main character's life for 14 hours. One part I watched one character look at another 3 characters without dialogue for 4 mins. Moved to a room with a musical instrument in it - 7 mins, and finally talking about things she has talked about 50 times before - 4 mins. 15 mins with nothing to do but stare at the screen!! I'm not sure if we are being trolled or if the producers became so interminably pretentious that their main focus was art and simply looked down at their noses at the people who want to solve puzzles as plebs who can't see the high art in a banana taped to a damn wall. So - if you've played the other 3, go for it - if you're invested in the character (warning again - it's a 14 hours movie - very little to do). If you want to start with this one - nope, not recommended. Visuals: 9/10 Storyline: 9/10 Gameplay: 1/10 I can't believe any one of the creators sat down at this game, did a playthrough and said "brilliant, not boring at all, and those 4 puzzles make it all worthwhile."

The continuation of Kate Walker's story, the heroine of the previous Syberia games. This time, she'll be imprisoned in a salt mine for a while, probably because she was caught after her journey in the previous game. Kate will try to escape with her fellow prisoner after receiving a letter about her mother. During their escape, they found an old train cargo that contained old items from WW2, and among them, Kate found a painting of a woman who looked exactly like her. Having a new purpose for a new journey, she decided to look for the girl in the photo, which is our second main character of the game, Dana Roze; we will follow her journey from the year 1937 through the beautiful cities of Eastern Europe, learning about her life and the war which was around the corner. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397093893 Although the story was slow at times, the writing was beautiful. You could feel the characters' emotions, and you had the chance to choose how they responded, but none of the choices changed the course of the story. The game's theme music is also beautiful. The whole soundtrack takes you to a different place, and with the amazing voice acting, the game feels complete. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397113787 Words cannot describe how beautiful the graphics and animation are. They are a huge step forward from the previous games. The environment and cyberpunk theme are so beautiful. I've taken over a thousand screenshots and still haven't covered all the scenes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397133910 Pros: +Emotional beautiful story. +Outstanding soundtracks. +Beautiful upgraded graphics and animations compared to the previous games. +Multiple puzzles. (Some are complicated) +Auto save. +Steam achievements. Cons: - No manual save. - Lots of backtracking. - Bad controls. (Both with controller and mouse) I didn't expect this ending, but it was beautiful and left me wanting more. This game was dedicated to the memory of its creator Benoît Sokal, who passed away during its development. The news saddened me, and I'm unsure if a new Syberia game will ever be created. I highly recommend it to people who enjoy story-heavy games. Dropped the game halfway through at first, but glad I came back. Movement is annoying, slow and clunky. No skipping dialogues. Many tasks are more like simple clicking or walking, which I feel is not as good as in the first two games. The visuals are stunning. I don't like Kate's decisions very much, but the story pulled me in hard, true to Benoit Sokal's style. Sadly that Amerzone remake might be the last game built on his legacy that I can play Almost forgot—I really like Oscar! He brings something special to the game

Just the best game available for story line, you connect emotionally. fantastic graphics. Beniot Sokal was an incredible story writer its so sad hes gone, the gaming world will miss him, there is no one that can take his place, or another game in this genre that is better.
