this game is good and fun but i think its fucking ass that hundreds of songs are paywalled. we should be having at least half of the entire songlist available in the base game.

I love Taiko as a game! The general single-player gameplay of this port is pretty fun if you like rhythm games, and Taiko is one with only a few buttons so it's easy to learn, hard to master. There are a few issues with this specific port, though: 1. As others have mentioned, there's a music pass that lets you have access to a wider variety of songs, and the base game only has around 80. Music Pass exists in both versions of the game (Switch and this port). This is, in my opinion, more of an issue for Extreme-level players of Taiko who have been playing it for a long while. Casual players don't need to worry about this much, because there's 4 difficulties and it is going to take you YEARS to get to the point you'll be able to get to the Extreme level. 2. If you're going to be serious about Taiko, this WILL get expensive. You'll need a special drum controller to really master the game, since that's how it was meant to play. The drum controller is like 50-100 dollars, depending on what kind you get, and it's pretty easy to get a trash one that will break within 2.5 seconds of gameplay as I've heard. Do your research, get guidance from the more experienced players if you have to. Not to mention the above music pass. Make sure you like this game before you go off the deep end. 3. Ranked is dead in this port. If you expect to play ranked, don't. I've tried several times and I only got ONE Japanese guy to come kick my ass. If your main goal is to play with people on ranked and you don't have friends to force into a game, get Rhythm Festival on Switch, ranked is MUCH more lively on there. I'm a normal-level, more casual player, so I can't give any suggestions for players above my rank. I can, however, give these suggestions to more casual players: - If you want to play Rhythm Festival in general: Switch is the way to go, if possible. This will do just fine, though. - If you want to play against people in Ranked: Use the Switch version. The only PC options have dead ranked, from what I've heard. - If you're worried about the Music Pass and don't have consoles: Try The Drum Master!, the Xbox Taiko (which has a PC version from what I've heard), or look into a simulator. - If you've never played before: Please play the Demo first or play for less than 2 hours and return if you don't like it. If you do like it, don't jump off into the deep end immediately -- i.e. getting a drum controller and music pass. 80 songs and a regular Xbox/Switch controller will do you just fine as a casual, non-competitive player. I did NOT mean for this to be so long. Um. In general I WOULD recommend this game for casual players of Taiko like me, but there are alternatives if you don't like the Music Pass or want to mainly go for ranked play.

normalize bringing arcade rhythm games to pc plz its fun and the song selection is good (better if you have dlc/pass) only problem i have with this game is that everything takes forever (like seriously, the level up screen still takes forever when you mash enter and theres no option to skip the story if you have no interest in it, only fast forward. plus all the loading screens and shit)

Best rhythm game ever made, and I've tried a lot. Osu used to be my go-to, but after this, there's no reason to go back. What are people waiting for? An influencer to play it while screaming, making weird noises and overreacting on stream before they give it a chance? Get a Hori drum and smack it to death.
