I have played lots of rythm games and honestly this is one of my favorites because its simplicity: * No convoluted UI * No need to 'unlock' songs to play them * Waaaaay cheaper than other games * "Note Enhancer" so the songs don't sound like ass if you miss a note (you can turn it off) * Plenty of songs. Most of them chinese vocaloid or electronic, but there are plenty of clasical or piano-like songs too! * It has NOMA's Brain Power. What it lacks * No multiplayer :( * No way to search. You have to go around all the songs like a jukebox. * Themes crash the game randomly in big resolutions. * Dev communication is meh. There are patches almost every month but they are released without any kind of information.
Teeter-tottering between positive and negative. MUSYNX is legitimately very difficult to have a fair opinion since I've had better experiences within this genre (VSRG). Some thoughts. When booting up the game, MUSYNX gives you a window for adjusting resolution, controller keymaps (keybinds are in game menu only), as well as 'graphics' presets. There's three presets: low, middle and extreme. I believe the first two options lock the framerate and extreme text is actually cut off and unreadable (lol), but I think it's trying to say 'unlocked framerate'? Here's the thing...why not have these options in the actual game so people can adjust on the fly? The menu is already barebones as is! I have no problems of course w/resolution, but maybe some people need to adjust their resolution to fit their needs without starting the game up repeatedly. In game, you can adjust FPS locks and V-Sync. FPS lock has two options of just 60 and 120 if I recall. V-Sync option uses your monitor's refresh rate, mine being 165 for example. No NVIDIA G-Sync or AMD Freesync options unfortunately from what I've seen. Not the end of the world, but I usually have those options enabled in my other rhythm games since they provide them. Just some graphical nitpicks. As I've mentioned above, you can adjust keybinds to your liking via the in game menu for both 4 key and 6 key modes. Simple and straightforward. No complaints. Game runs fine for me. Not really demanding. Used my budget build for this game specifically this time around. Ryzen 3 2300X, GTX 1650 4GB and 16GB RAM @60hz. Also have a similar budget build with Athlon 200ge CPU. Runs fine on both with resolution adjustments. No crashes whatsoever. Most people don't really care about specifics in rhythm games unless you're the type to really want the smoothest performance possible for consistency. Game UI is legitimately disappointing. Visually unimpressive and unappealing + slightly irritating to navigate. Reminds me of a beta piece of software that hasn't gotten a UI revamp. Sorry, but I just don't really like it :( How's the game? Ehhhhh, it's fine. Might be redundant to state, but VSRG = vertical scrolling rhythm game if you are new to the genre. Keys fall from top to bottom and you need to hit them in sync with score line. Takes some getting used to, but pretty easy concept once you get the hang of it. MUSYNX is by far the most forgiving I've played (so far!) in terms of scoring. You don't have to be right on the mark compared to say EZ2ON, which is both good and bad. Good being it creates a low stress environment where you don't have to put TOO much effort into playing the song and simply just enjoy. The bad part is a personal opinion of mine. I think the lenient judgement/scoring is a bit detrimental as it can encourage keynote spam... Believe me, there's some absolutely awful music in this game where I just wanted to be done with the chart already. Cue tempting keyboard spam. Obviously, play how you want. Most charts in the game are fairly easy on the normal difficulty. Difficulties are typically just two categories compared to other games with 4 sub-difficulties. A third category is Inferno or whatever they call it in MUSYNX. This is probably slander against hardcore MUSYNX players, but I think Inferno mode is literal trash. It's just keyboard spam with little regard for the music! I don't know man. I can at least play a SHD track or SC track in EZ2ON and DJMAX respectively where the rhythm isn't typically lost in the charting. It's literally built alongside the song with some quality control. This is where I believe MUSYNX falls short a bit (I would honestly straight up say MUSYNX fails at this aspect) when it comes to charting/song harmony. Oh, this game has songs! That's right. Most are kinda...lol. Well, let's just say not my typical music. Several songs have a bit of an obnoxious undertone to them: a.k.a they sound ANNOYING and don't feel like they fit a rhythm game. I don't know the genre exactly since I don't listen to whatever some of these songs are categorized as, but goodness. Loud pitches of sound, too much of one instrument or whatever is being mixed into the song from a synth and general lack of consistency. Besides this junk, there's lots of other different sounding songs. I think one of my friends referred to the selection as 'culture shock' which is accurate I'd say. I will tell you this though: I do not remember a single song name aside from some of the third party artists' stuff, lol. Some of the songs I liked were stuff I've heard before. There's a couple ETIA songs, which I really enjoy personally. IKAROS is a classic and I like the chart in this game. Hope for the Flowers is a nice one and I also like that chart. Probably the song I like the most in MUSYNX and I tend to come back and play it quite a bit. Wish the charting was a little better, but positive experience regardless. There's also this GhostFInal song which I've never heard before that's really, really good (in my opinion). It's called Mirai Miracle, I think? Absolutely wonderful track! Feels like it would fit in a credit montage to life, haha. Man, I wish songs like these were curated a bit more versus the other filler in MUSYNX. Love these heartwarming, nostalgic instrumentals! Lots of them in EZ2ON if you look hard enough and several in DJMAX, but with vocals and I just wish there were a tad but more here. Compliments from me. Other songs I did like came from the DLC pack, but most are not translated. The songs with the yin-yang symbol. Loved lots of those songs. Very unique and distinct sound to them. Probably the only consistent category of music in MUSYNX imo. Overall, okay-ish song selection. A bit sour selection, but there were indeed gems amongst the rubble for me. Also, surprised this game doesn't have AXION or Conflict, but it has PUPA (which is overrated imo). Literally every other game I've played has one, the other or both as DLC, but not MUSYNX. You might see a preview of the 'note themes' on the Steam page (I always call them gear skins because of other VSRGs). Not really a dealbreaker for me, but I really dislike the gear skins in MUSYNX. Something about them feels lifeless, ya know? Probably due in part to the fact that you can't customize them to your liking or offset them like in EZ2ON/DJMAX. Most of the skins are too 'noisy' with flashing colors when you strike the notes. I like my HUD and gear visuals clean and distraction free, but oh well. Only skin I really use is the ink script one. It's pretty cool, very clean visually and reminds me of Dusk's visual motif from Arknights. You do have two graphical options though regarding gear skins, which I did initially raise an eyebrow at. You can set some of the skins to either function in 2D or 3D, which is cool. 2D is flat and easy to read and 3D is a bit cooler. It gives a slight aerial view of the chart's pattern as well as the score line, very similar to TAPSONIC if you've ever played/heard of that game. I actually like that visual effect a lot and it's my preferred way to play this game. Nice job! Think that covers my opinions on MUSYNX. It's not the best VSRG or rhythm game in general (hell no), but I respect the effort put into the game, even if it falls short in some aspects. I really think we need more rhythm games with varying styles of music because it does get tiring having this almost clique-like music that tends to sound the same when pit against one another. Not gonna name any names but ya know... I do think MUSYNX fills this role admirably, but could have done a better job with its music curation + charting. Just an opinion. And regardless of that opinion, I do think there is fun to be had with MUSYNX if you've never tried it or just want some rhythm game to explore and fiddle with for a relatively low cost for the base game + music DLC pack. Affordable and that's probably why it's very difficult for me to be overtly negative toward it.
I LOVE IT SO FAR!!!! I do wish there were more themes, but that's a minor thing and they already sell those as DLC, so it's fine (hella cheap too). Bought the DLC for more songs, and I hope I'll enjoy it more than I already do the base game!! 💝💝 Recommend for those who love rhythm games ꉂ(ˊᗜˋ*)♡
Musynx is an awesome 4-key/6-key rhythm game that doesn’t get enough love. The gameplay is smooth and satisfying, and there’s a ton of songs right out of the box, with even more added through free updates. The difficulty range is solid too, whether you're just getting into rhythm games or looking for a real challenge. Plus, it's super affordable, which makes it an easy recommendation for any rhythm game fan.
