One of the most beautiful games I've ever played. I was stunned throughout. Quick synopsis: Young lad pressured to follow his late uncle's footsteps in folk music finds himself in a DMT trip like experience where he creates his own persona by shredding with aliens. It's a story driven game with light platformer and rhythm mechanics that can be completed in under 4 hours but delivers an unforgettable psychedelic adventure.

Not much gameplay but definitely a trip. The visuals were amazing and the music worthy of the glamourgonn

The Artful Escape starts off well enough as a rich neon-soaked story about self-discovery and ignoring what the world is telling you to be. All the while you're just riding this wave of psychedelic sound and light, with alien muppets popping up along the way. It's a fucking joy. What I wasn't expecting though, was how this game could speak to other people and how I felt like I got to take part in (and greatly enjoy) an experience that was meant for someone else. Unlike how there are brief moments where LGBTQ stuff can get a bit too on-the-nose, forced, and saccharine with certain dontnod games (not that it's the worst thing), well... this really felt like an experience that could speak to queer and trans kids who are struggling to get comfortable with themselves. If you told me that it was a game designed specifically for them, but not marketed that way to help sales, I'd 100% believe it (and support it if it was coming from a good place rather than a capitalist one). Look, I'm standard-issue cishet yt-guy, but the way everything flowed together was just so meaningful, impactful, and spoke to being genuine with yourself in such a way that I plan to recommend this to a few friends who are parenting kids who are struggling with their gender-identity specifically. When I do, I'll recommend the parents spend the time with their kids while they play (if they can convince the kiddos to let them stay). I kinda get annoyed how there's both voice and text, and you can't pick to disable the speech bubbles...but ultimately you know what you're getting at this point with Night School so it's not the worst. One last though: Lena Headey might be seriously underrated as an artist. Yeah, she was great in GoT and she even managed to make her episodes of Beacon 23 watchable, but experiencing her play a psychedelic space fish muppet and feeling like god is talking whenever she performs? TLDR: The lady has some fucking chops. A+ all around. The game might be short, but no need to wait for it to go on sale. It's worth every penny.

Short, but definitely interesting game that trucks almost entirely on its audio and visuals. Like a technicolor trip through the light fantastic; more art piece than game. The core gameplay "challenge" is a Simon-Says style game to play your notes, but it is generally an element that is few and far between. I would advise you grab this one on sale, and treat it like a vignette or movie about the pressures of living in the shadow of a famous family member, and the trouble that causes when trying to find oneself, and ones own interests. Best of luck!

Caveat: I did not play this game sober. This is not a game I would find fulfilling or fun usually, but with the right frame of mind this walking simulator becomes a truly mind-numbing audio-visual delight. The plot is unencumbered. The characters are simple. The dialogue is uninspired. The design is, in multiple senses, out of this world. All of this plays into the blissful, empty-brained trance that allows the visuals to roll over and through you. This experience is more feature-length music video than game, and that's exactly what it needed to be as far as I'm concerned.
