If you're a fan of the "game dev" tycoon game/genre, you already know what this game is...and that's not a bad thing because you're a fan of this genre! Simply put, this game is a reskinned Game dev tycoon genre spinoff with a movie theme, which feels to be about a +2 match. Full playthrough of 1970 to the "end game"" of 2020 was only a few hours (you can continue to play onward but no score is recorded), but replayability is very high in this genre imo There are a ton of missed opportunities for more immersion in this game (sign directors/actors to multi film contract(exclusive as well), the largest building limits you to 18 staff which ultimately limits your studios output significantly...give us at least double that, research tree needs expanding, let the game go on longer than 2020 etc) All that being said, the game is very enjoyable, and if you find it on sale it is definitely worth it. The devs have stated that the game didn't perform as well as expected and has thus been declared finished There are mods for the game to bring irl companies/names into the game for more immersion

Update: The devs just announced the game will receive no further updates, so only buy this game for what it is Pros: - Okay UI - Nice Sound Effects - Seemingly balanced reviews system - Buy IPs - Lots of Research Options - Nice art style - Unique way of assigning Directors, Actors etc - The Distribution stuff is cool - Lots of options like Sequels, Prequels, Reboots and Spin-offs What Needs Improving: - There is no option for Game Speed, the game currently feels way too fast as I'm 30 minutes in and 10 years have already passed - There is no option for FPS above 60, so if you have a 120hz or 144hz computer, you will have to play at 60fps - The performance of the game is quite bad, it runs at around 30fps with an RTX 2050 - More things need to be explained with tooltips, like what certain expenses are - At first the game is quite confusing - It's unclear what production features you should be using and there is no way to find out the optimal features - Home Entertainment is too confusing and there is no mention of Streaming Services - If you buy an IP, the IP holder forces you to make a movie almost every year in that IP and it's too hard to keep up with - You can't see what settings you used for previous movies - The strange choice of words like Ancillaries, Affinities rather than more suitable words are quite strange, but understandable since the developers are not native English speakers - Can't change the names of IPs or Movies after creating them - No filtering options in menus such as your movies

The game is very fun but I really dislike the way IPs are implemented. Instead of being able to have multiple franchises inside of each IP à la MCU or DCU, you can only put one franchise inside of each IP. I really don't see the point of the IP feature and it seems to only serve as an extra title for your franchise. It would be much cooler if you could house multiple franchises inside of each IP, allowing you to create multiple movie series that exist under the same IP and universe. I'm also unable to create Spinoffs even though I've fulfilled all the requirements for it.

I was looking for something reminiscent of the old "The Movies" game. This isn't an exact replacement, but it definitely scratches the itch. Overall, there is a lot of depth to the game and it isn't too overwhelming to learn. I would recommend it.

Its basically Game Dev Tycoon, but for movies. Its a decent game, but limited and gets boring fast. No possibility to make TV shows, and you aren't developing stars, you aren't making a name for directors and the biggest task is moving sliders around. Its NOT The Movies, and is not pretending to be. If you're unsure, wait till Summer Sale.
