This is a very enjoyable game. Pros: - fun simulation gameplay loop, buy stuff, decorate, buy more stuff, hire employees, redo the casino - as the casino grows, there are a handful of jobs you have to do yourself before an employee can be hired, so over the course of a playthrough your tasks change, keeping the moment to moment gameplay fresh - humorous events and NPCs to keep the world lively - there's decent replay value in starting a new save or playing with friends and starting from the beginning - I've been playing for a few updates now, and each update has added something useful or interesting and I'm excited for more expansions to the core game Cons: - not a huge fan of the AI art, but I understand its place in indie games, I'm generally very selective about what projects I support that do use AI art and I don't find it egregious here - paid DLCs for early access simulator games are almost never a good look, and I'm not sure there's a whole lot of value in what's currently available, time will tell if more worthwhile stuff will be added in updates and whether it will be paywalled - a little bit of jank you'd expect from an indie game in this genre and budget - some of the sound mixing isn't great, some sound effects like the geese honking are much louder and directly in the ear than they should be - a bit more customization would be nice, both aesthetic customization and adding variation and replay value through extra gameplay tweaks All in all, this game is really fun, and came to me and our group as a sort of "Make your own Gamble With Your Friends" with extra steps, but it's a very engaging game. The new LED light update was super cool and definitely made a huge difference in how much you can make the space feel like your own. I'm definitely excited to see the "Motel" update they've got planned on the roadmap, and I'm hoping there will be potential to expand the casino massively with enormous crowds of guests in the future. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see the art style switch up and move away from the AI stuff as well. The "guided" mode offers a solid 20-30 hours of gameplay if you're not rushing and taking your time to enjoy building out and designing the space. Overall, I give The House Always Wins a solid 4/5, for what it is, and if you like shop/simulator types, you'll probably like it.
The House Always Wins turned out to be a lot more entertaining than I expected from a casino simulator. On paper, running a casino doesn't sound all that exciting, but the game constantly throws random events and troublesome NPCs your way to keep you on your toes. The closest comparison I can think of is Laundry Store Simulator. Not because they're the same type of game, but because they both sprinkle in goofy, unexpected moments that stop the gameplay from becoming repetitive. One minute you're expanding your casino, the next you're dealing with someone trying to make your day a whole lot worse. It gives the game a bit of personality that many simulators lack. I also appreciated how well the guided game mode introduces everything. It takes the time to teach the controls and mechanics without dragging things out, then lets you build your casino at your own pace. There's a satisfying progression system where you're unlocking new machines, games, decorations, and upgrades before moving into a larger building. Once employees enter the picture, the whole business starts to snowball in the best way. After about eight hours, I had my casino bringing in around $80–100k a day, and it felt rewarding watching everything I'd built run almost on its own. I just ended the game 45 in game days. it work smoothly and perfectly. I have some suggestion for QOL Changes such as: 1- Having a table or a safe that auto gather money from all games ( Slots, Table... etc ) to save some time. 2- Detail about which category make more money. 3- Hiring a security that auto kick problem making visitors 4- Hiring some one to fix machines 5- a way to have more visitors to my Casino for example more an ad because i feel at some point i am making the same money every day no more no less. I would add a trend or events such as more visitors will play curtain slot and spend more money on casino or on that specific slot machine or table. Things i did not like : 1- Some of the missions are repeated just with more requirement and waste so much time 2- Tables are waste of money, i had 3 roulette tables and one royal one, 2 blackjack tables and one royal. and both of them made no money for days and if they do it is nothing to their price and same goes to the Pole dance i barely made any money but at least they are cheap. 3- only slots machine are worth buying. 4- in early game i felt overwhelmed and exhausted because of the work that i have to cover before hiring. 5- Lack of activity to be done aside from the main mission. 6- it is exhausted to be in constant track to stack your merch without auto fill or ability to buy more shelfs overall, it was fun experience and wish the developer all the best. I may re-visit if there is anything added
Fun game, only critique i have is that i am missing the freedom of progressing how i like a bit. Feels like the tasks are like a tutorial at first but after playing nearly 3h i wanna decide for myself what direction i wanna go. Edit: Saw on the roadmap they will add this feature in another Gamemode. Definitely will come back to play again once its out.
