Unbeatable atmosphere. The sound architecture, the immersive environments, the jump scares, and the overall sense of dread are top tier. Amazing that this game was made by one person.

The Land of Pain is a Lovecraftian first person adventure that does a lot of things right with what I guess were not too many resources. It's a simple story that starts with a guy arriving to a cabin in the woods, but then things quickly get really weird. It's not a large game, it can be completed in around 3 hours, but it doesn't feel short. The story works really well. The only negative thing that bothered was the size of the maps and the backtracking. Some maps are really bug and it's easy to get lost. And on top of that, there are a few times where you need to run back and forth. Go find a key to open the door; now that you opened the door, go find a tool to clear the space; now that you cleared the space, go find this and that... and it's always very far from where you are. Aside from that, great game.

Just finished this as its been setting in my backlog for a good minute. Next is the Alien Cube which i believe is the sequel to this? This has a dark and creepy story to it and as you go you unlock the secrets and backstory to what the hell is going on. "Land of Pain" is a first-person psychological horror game that effectively blends the eerie atmosphere with a haunting narrative. Set in a mysterious world, the game focuses on exploration and puzzle-solving, immersing players in an unsettling experience. The visual design and sound work together to build tension, creating an engaging, though occasionally unsettling adventure. Fans of atmosphere horror will find its eerie charm and intriguing puzzles worth exploring. Depending on your progress this can be a descent or short play through. I had some moments where i felt like i was getting lost but has a good hint system to help you along the way if needed. Not to many crazy jump scares but the way its put together its creates for alot of tension of not knowing what will happen or come next.

Im kinda in love with The land of pain but i aswell hate a few parts of it. I'll first say that this game isn't really a horror game that you will get scared of, sure it feels very grim and dark even in places where you are safe but the issue is that there's not much places where the main danger is WICH is the monster, i like the design of this fella he has some intresting lore behind them but in the actual game he's just a pile of smoke with red eyes and teeth. And this aint your everyday horror game its more closer to a walking simulator...but a good one! real good one, altough there's not much dangers and for the most time of the game you're safe from the monster this is a lovecraftian horror so we got a lot of that psychological horror and the game does it really well too. The lore of this game is rather insane it has twists and all but some things just dont make sense, you can see some inspiration and references to lovecraft and i love it i mean the statuettes that we encounter throughout the whole game look like...well the great old one but welp im not gonna spoil anything...altough the ending was kinda....bland i still enjoyed this game a lot 8/10.

I give this game a neutral review. Pros: - runs smoothly on Steam Deck - there is some lore; you'll get a gist by reading notes scattered around the game's world. - Amnesia Dark Decent vibes - Cthulhu! - eery atmosphere and sound effects Cons: - huge, HUGE map. A lot of backtracking. - 0% puzzles content. It's just backtracking: back and forth, fetch smth and bring it back. - enemy can be outrun just by W-shifting, no stealth is needed. - basically it's just a walking simulator, not much scary/horror game
