I would say the UI is a little clunky and maybe a little dated, but this game has a lot of variety and I have enjoyed playing it. Took a while to understand the editor, and how that works, but once I understood it was an easy tool to create my own games.

Probably one of the most in depth wargames, several unique mechanics and great professional looking graphics and UI (I really like the color palette used for counters and the overall feel). On top of that hundreds of exceptionally done scenarios in all possible historical periods, this is a must buy for any serious lover of this genre, it's a fantastic game and infinitely replayable.

I actually cant recommend the game, but I cant say it's bad Game has a lot of bad and good and I would say my view on it is mixed First of all is game overall is good, you can play a lot of maps not with just infantry as in john tiller games, but also ships and planes, you have great battle and supply system which made actually good, it's not too complicated as in gary grygsby games, and not too simple as in john tiller games. But all not so perfect, and not perfect I mean is PO, it can just stop pushing you even though they are completely winning, they can attack your airfield with AA, loosing tons of their planes and get just zero of yours round by round, they can move their ships here and there before your coastal guns and just being destroyed, simply not attacking weak points and attacking strong points, and I'm talking about PO on strongest difficulty Another thing is not all maps playable, some of maps simply not designed to play against PO, so most of the maps what I was really hyped for were not playable And last thing is balance, I mean I know it might be some kind of realism where strong side is stronger and weak side is weaker, but in such game you expect something more, it's not so easy to notice, and I wont call it something bad, but still wish game let you have some variety to play even as weak side Good points: A lot of maps, a lot of war theaters, great supply and battle mechanics Bad points: not so smart PO, not all maps are playable solo, small variety of units

I debated long and hard before I bought this, even though it was on sale. Even though reviews were pretty positive on the whole, there were some things I read that had me on the fence and leaning rather heavily towards not buying it. The biggest issue I had was with the supposedly only scripted AI. I say supposedly because with research I found this is not true. Scripting is available for scenario developers but there is an underlying AI as well. The second biggest issue was the complexity and rather anachronistic way of splitting up turns. Indeed this is an issue and it does take some getting used to, but the game is quite playable even if you don't know all the nuances (although knowing them will improve how you do). The really great thing about the game is the number of scenarios, some for battles that are hard to find or will cost you a pretty penny to get. To give you an idea of what else I play, and where this fits in, I also have and really like: 1) GG War In the East 2 2) GG War in the West 3) Strategic Command WW II: World at War 4) Strategic Command WW II: War in Europe 5) Unity of Command 2 I have some others I am less pleased with. But this fits in very nicely with the above. It is in ways the most difficult of the bunch (and yes, I am including the GG titles in that comparison). But it is rewarding to play. If you do purchase it, I highly recommend playing the Kasserine Pass scenario in the Tutorials folder, and then finding the write up in the scenario files folder done by General Staff. He does an excellent job of presenting how the game works.
