I know that this has very negative reviews because of EA not fixing bugs, improving on the re:release and then charging full price for the full collection. They absolutely should of put effort into the re:release, fix the bugs and even could of made a legacy collection expansion with some new goodies or items. But they didn't. I know people are mad and understand why they are. But I am just thankful that I get to replay my favorite sims game, with all minus Ikea expansion pack (Bitter). I've installed Sims 2 and expansion via DVD and also attempted downloading sims 2 multiple times in different ways in the past and always had a rough time getting it to work. It was never a simple set up and for the fact that this version is a simple download and ready to play makes it worth it in my books. (Especially now they've worked out some of the bugs) Sims Original was one of the first gaming experiences I had and then Sim 2 was my absolute favorite game when it was released and I am happy to be able to re-live it. Sims 2 was and is far superior in my books than sims 3 and I wont even bother mentioning sims 4 (bin) Do I wish EA worried less about money and put some more effort into this re:release and debug the game prior? Yes. Do I wish they had done a legacy collection special expansion pack for the release? Yes. Am I still going to play Sims 2, forget real life and be absorbed into a game about a sims needs whilst ignoring my own? Yes. Absolutely 100%. 10/10 do recommend my favorite Sims game. 0/10 EA games being lazy and money hungry.

I've played this game for 20 hours, and I’d like to share my experience to help others decide whether it’s worth purchasing. Pros It’s essentially The Sims 2, rereleased and made playable on modern devices—no remaster or remake. This can be great if you’re a returning player looking to relive the experience. Now that the game is for sale, EA is giving support for it. Expect more updates and patch notes from now on. The game has received a few fixes, and in my experience, it runs buttery smooth—better than the Ultimate Collection, may I add. My Ultimate Collection used to stutter a lot, and FPS drops were too prominent to ignore, even with community patches like Graphics Rules Maker and the RPC Launcher from Lazy Duchess. Since its rerelease, the game has received even more updates (things that should've been added from the beginning, but that's not the focus). The game now automatically recognizes your device and applies the correct graphical settings, instead of defaulting everything to low. It's not surprising that the majority of Simmers aren't very tech-savvy. I couldn’t stand seeing comments blaming the devs for the rerelease supposedly disabling shadows, when you could simply toggle the option on and off by loading a lot and adjusting the settings. The stupidity amuses me. On a positive note, the voices are no longer robotic and low-quality, and the custom skintone window now works properly—issues that used to bother me but have been fixed. Cons ㅤ There is absolutely NO REASON to rerelease this game in its current state. Half the comments are from people complaining that the game won’t even launch. While I understand the pressure of strict deadlines and the reality of post-launch fixes, there’s no excuse for a game to fail at simply launching. That’s stupid. It has been a week, and there’s still no fix for the absurdly small UI when playing at higher resolutions. When I heard the news about the rerelease, my first thought was: surely they’ll fix the UI and stretch the loading screens—but no. Even just... scaling it with AI would’ve been less humiliating than doing nothing at all. And no, the game automatically setting your screen to a lower resolution just to make the UI larger is NOT a fix. The UI becomes blurry and looks unappealing to look at. Shame on EA. LOL. No BodyShop? One of the core reasons The Sims 2 is so beloved is the ability to create genuinely unique and attractive Sims using BodyShop. Yet, this rerelease doesn’t include it. I can understand leaving out something like the IKEA Stuff Pack, but removing BodyShop is baffling. Should you buy this? It depends. If you already own the game on the EA app or through... other methods, then no. With community patches, you already have a functional version of the game. There’s no need to spend money on this rerelease. However, if you don’t own the game yet, go for it. As I mentioned, the game is receiving official support now, so patches and updates are on the way. At the end of the day, the rerelease brings more people into the Sims 2 community, which is a good thing. Whether you buy the new version or stick with your Ultimate Collection, just enjoy the game and have fun. Dag Dag. WARNING: When I wrote this review, the game hadn’t been patched yet. EA has since released 2 patches, so I’m going to test it and see if anything has changed so I can update my review accordingly.

I wish steam had a neutral/mixed recommendation option... It DOES work for me, but based on other reviews, your results may vary. It is also kind of a waste of money if you already own it on PC and it works fine. I just bought it so its less of a pain to play on my Steam Deck lol Update for people curious about it on Steam Deck: Some hairs and makeup are really bad quality in create a sim, but they look normal during gameplay. During gameplay I had no issues, it runs just as well as it does on PC

Sul sul! The game does not require EA Play and it doesn't use Denuvo. Pressing Alt+Enter will enter windowed mode. There's no windowed borderless built into the game but Borderless Gaming on Github lets you play the game in borderless. The Denuvo notice was included on the 25th Birthday Bundle by mistake, and the EA Play requirement only applies to The Sims 4 since you get two Sims 4 kits for buying the bundle. Anyway. Time to rack up 1,000 hours.

Wish they spruced the game up a little more for its rerelease. No cloud saving, no borderless windowed mode, the game still launches in a tiny resolution, but at least it supports 1080p and 4k right out of the box without fiddling with the files. I know Sims 2 is a complete mess internally, and making meaningful changes to the game would be a nightmare, but a bit more TLC for one of Maxis' greatest masterpieces would've been appreciated. At the end of the day, it really makes me happy to see TS2 get some love again, and finally get a proper digital release on Steam, with all the expansions (except the Ikea Stuff Pack) included, all for a reasonable price, but I wish EA had given it a bit more of the respect it deserves.
