Basically the best game to ever bless my heart in my childhood. I'm happy that it exists on steam too. It's very stable and decent. It's definitley much darker in sense than other newer Sims games. Overall, good storys, good tool and if you figure out how to play it, you'll be good!
I finally came back to replay The Sims 1, and after all these years I can confidently say this game is completely unhinged. Every day begins with a race against time. Wake up. Shower. Eat. Miss the carpool because your Sim decided staring at a wall was more important. Need a promotion? Better make fourteen friends. Apparently becoming a Business Tycoon has less to do with business and more to do with hosting the world's most aggressive networking campaign. The social system is amazing. You can spend six straight hours talking to someone, become best friends, and then lose half the relationship because you didn't call them for two days. My Sim's social life felt less stable than the stock market. The needs system is relentless. You're not controlling a person, you're managing eight simultaneous emergencies. Hunger is low. Energy is low. Fun is low. Comfort is low. The toilet is clogged. There's a puddle on the floor. A raccoon just showed up. The house is on fire. It's only 8:30 AM. And somehow, despite all of this, I couldn't stop playing. The Sims 1 doesn't try to simulate real life. It simulates what life feels like when everything goes wrong at the exact same time.
This game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. Even if you do everything right, things can just randomly implode on you and bring you back to square one. 20 minutes into my first playthrough I lost $4000, had my house invaded by a nasty disgusting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who kept coughing so loud at night that both of my sims lost their jobs because their moods were so low, had my house completely infested with cockroaches, and had all of my appliances broken as my 2 sims pissed themselves and starved to death because they were too preoccupied to take care of themselves with their busy schedule of passing out and trying and failing to clean up mounds of garbage because they would immediately throw them back onto the ground for no reason. Every action taken creates more puddles of water and bug-infested piles of trash that you will have 0 time to take care of If you don't cheat to give yourself money at the start or you make the mistake of having more than 1 sim in your household, this game is a Sisyphean nightmare. When you're not laughing, you're crying and screaming at your stupid deadbeat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sims who will either stand there in a vegetative state for 10 seconds before beginning their task or just not listen to you at all. My sims' moods were always in the red and were only ever neutral or green for 20-30 seconds at a time before going back down to red. The visual style of this game is also very distinct from all of the other Sims games and I enjoy that it's very clearly supposed to be taking place in the 1960s. The decorations you can buy for your house are so garish and off-putting that they're charming. Runs really well on my computer, haven't had any issues with crashing. Resolution does not fit 1920x1080 monitors, but this is something that's common for a lot of old games. Definitely recommend, this is so fun!! I get bored playing TS4 and TS3 but this is an exception.
The same sims that it used to be. For anyone who is familiar with the games, I'd definitely recommend, especially if it's on sale. I know there have been some concerns with bugs and glitches. But in my experience (Arch Linux + KDE Plasma), it's been running fine. The only issue I had was if I try to start in Windowed mode - it refused to start and I had to reinstall. Otherwise it's been fine.
