This game was and interesting and engaging. Pros + The story, I loved the macabre story. + Lore and setting was intriguing. + Character were unique and i want to know more about them. + Combat was fun, spell great variety made each round unique, army management was easy but a bit hit and missed when it came to attacking every so often. Act like a weak mage , hide behind your army and avoid range attacks and you will easily finish the game with that mind set in mind. + Controls were easy to understand and master. Cons - Bugs were annoying and one with the giant where you sacrifice round it caused it to get stuck forcing me to quit the round. When using bone attack spell with final boss caused crashes. But other then those 2 bugs, the others could be over looked there. - Achievements was a pain in the butt, even wrote my first ever guide to help with one. The worst was dying 100 time I set out to die about 86-93 time give or take. Overall, I give 7.5 out of 10 I had a good time with this game. you will too if your enjoy a macabre game.

Why is this game getting so much hate? Graphics are decent (pixelated sprites with lighting effects, sweet!), and in my opinion the gameplay is a lot better than most other reviews claim it to be. The complaint I read most often is the limitiation of 80 undead to use for your army... Yeah well, there are items and skills you can use to circumvent this limitation, so why all the buzz? Being a roguelite title it's also to be expected to die a lot, upgrade a lot, repeat. Yeah I get it, that's repetitive, right? But so is Vampire Survivors and it is an awesome game anyway. And so is The Unliving if you give it a chance. There's a lot of story going on inbetween your runs to underline the feeling of making progress. Almost every run grants you new abilities to unlock or level up, so the lack of diversity in levels will be compensated with an abundance of skills, weapons and ability combinations to try out. There's also plenty of achievements to go for to keep your interest up. Sound and soundtrack are both adequte, so no real reason to complain here, either. So what if the devs 'abandoned' the game? They delivered a solid product and for 5.99 (during Winter Sale) that's a fair price. I played for about 7 hours now (which I enjoyed quite a bit) and I will come back for several more!

Between this and Sea Salt, I'm thinking these are two of the best pure "Horde", "Necromancy" games. There's a lot of great lore, there's a ton of upgrades and the gameplay is how you'd want a Necromancer game to go. There's great attention to detail in the dialogue, the game system is pretty easy to use and the upgrades are kinda nice. I have no idea what is "mixed" about the reviews in this game. It's one of the few Necromancer games where you play a male and the action and gameplay are pretty awesome. I think this game is being artificially down-voted. I'm not sure what else anyone would be playing for Necromancer class in a necromancer game that's as easy to pick up and play, and has great depth, except for maybe Sea Salt, but that's Cthulhu.

Full disclosure I got it for 8 bucks. For 8 bucks its pretty good. Its got an okay story, easy pick up grind and die mechanics. Rougelike for sure as each map is slightly random. There's a time loop element so be ready for long quest grinds. Competent, is how i'd describe it. Easy like fast food.

Honestly, really solid for a release but like all games, needs work and updates. Unfortunately, the devs kind of dont exist anymore and as such it might be stuck on this version for the forseeable future. Highly recommended to get on sale or something to try out if you like roguelikes and necromancy but unless it gets an update to fix the mob ai or add workshop support so other people can fix the game, dont get at full price.
