DO NOT USE SAVE SLOT 1 FOR YOUR STORY MODE! If you play the story and want to try out the free mode, even if the game says it will backup your story it will dissappear. I did not know this and lost 6 hours of progress..

Thief Simulator 2 takes it up a notch from the first game, and to say it easy...everything is improved! Every bug you experienced in the first game is now fixed. Driving is good, there is now a proper tool wheel system, and everything is just more polished. At the same time new things have been added, to make your experience as a novice thief going master thief much better! The game itself was terribly hard when I started it, because no matter what I did I was so easily heard and the police was called for the smallest thing. I realised after a while that just by playing I would reach a point, where I could effective rob someones whole house without being caught, with only the limit of your backpack stopping you from taking it all. I also do very much like that I had some help with the stealing this time too. I have not much bad to say about this game, in fact I really enjoyed it! Perhaps I liked the houses better in the first game. They seemed more spacious. There were also a few extra maps in the game, and the Halloween one was really freaky! Must try! Overall, I was very happy with this game. In fact after finishing the game on Medium, I also played through the game on Hardcore too. In both playthroughs I finished the game 100%. So yeah...get this game! It's awesome!

TLDR: If you liked TS1 and wanted more, TS2 is basically an overall upgraded expansion. If you are into sneaking/stealing sim genre, then TS2 has a slightly more refined gameplay experience compared to TS1. Honestly a pretty solid game worth the money, 7.5/10. Since I already had experience from TS1, it only takes 10 hours to complete story mode and another 10 hours for 100%. TS2 is slightly more gimmicky than TS1, slightly more complicated but I wouldn't say more difficult, as you get a lot of powerful gadgets and upgrades that could basically trivialize the game if you grind enough. Overall the NPC AI hasn't really changed much from the first game, but I feel like they are kind of dumbed down a little. The progression is much faster compared to TS1, and there are quite a lot of QoL like planning mode, on-site pawn store, mobile shop and friendly NPC. There is also a new festival/event system than would alter NPC routines, but tbh doesn't have much actual impact (as you really cannot tell who's routine will be altered by how much, thus you can't planned around this system). The car dismantling system has been streamlined into much better than TS1, but its camera movement is still very cursed. The hardcore mode is quite challenging as you can no longer highlight NPCs but the 1.5x exp boost makes speedrunning for completion really fun. Survival mode is basically a nuance without much meaningful changes to the gameplay. Cons: The only problem I had was with the performance. Not sure why but sometimes the game would suddenly drop to 30 fps, even though I'm running medium quality on a 4060.

This game is nice and usually fun to play — but it also have some quite noticable flaws. [*]For starters, I usually don't like lockpicking in Oblivion , but in this game (as well as in the first part) they actually managed to make it fun . Now pins resist to go to they target position, but then they reach it, you have quite enough time to click. Plus, here is nice (I would even say, palpable) 3D cutaway model of the lock. Really well done! [*]Next, information about tenants' schedules became much more nuanced , you can see not only if they at home or not, but when they sleep or in which rooms they supposed to be in specific time. Here even special "planning mode" which shows their routes for nearby future. [*]Speaking of new tools , now you have drone , which can be used to disabling cameras and reconnaissance. I am huge fun of flying in games, and approve it. You also finally can knock out these pesky guards. :) Interesting idea with sleeping gas , where you must dress respirator before releasing it, or you succumb to it youself. [*]Compared to previous game, I barely remember any of these dreadful "infinite concrete" type of locations. Except, maybe, one villa — but there this thing is toned down and reasonable. Now, instead of third neighborhood, you have heists . They can be interesting — in particular, I recommend visit Devil's Lair: it really spooky (in a good way)! [*]There also some small improvements here and there: items that can be sold on BlackBay now marked with green envelope (both in the world and in the inventory), there is nice mini game for hacking ATM. Oh, and there is a cat in your hideout! Now, let's talk about flaws . [*] Save system still quite limited : you can save anywere in the "safe areas" — but still not inside people's houses, for example. This is not an issue for most part of the game, but when you start to visit big locations (like villas or heists) it will became one: imagine spending hour or two, and lost it due to single mistake or misfortune. Also, if you, for example, disable some security systems remotely then do save, after you load the game they will be back online. I have quite strong, old school opinion about the matter: a game should let you save at any moment where it technically possible, as many times as you want, without any restrictions. In this specific case it seems to be technical limitations (i.e. lack of skills to implement it properly) yet still this is quite unfortunate. [*]But will it be fun to work over you mistakes instead of just load the save, you may ask? And this bring us to second serious flaw: instant failures . In the first game, mechanics was quite abstract: it was enough for a guard or police officer to come close to you to "catch" you because there is no other ways to interact with them. Here, you finally can knock out them — but this abstract mechanic still here! Then a police officer comes close enough to you, they just tase you — and you don't even have a change to strafe away! For comparison, in the Thief: the Dark Project (AKA Thief Gold) archers knew about lead time when shooting, and it was hard to avoid they arrows — but not impossible. I see no reason will something like this can not happen here. Plus, my understanding of physics tells me that even light kevlar vest (body armor) should provide good protection against taser — I see no reason why the protaginist can not buy one. But this is not even the funniest part. Sometimes, "armed" guy who causing instant faliure is the one with... baseball bat. I have a crowbar with me, dammit! Ask any local headcrab zombie, if a crowbar is a serios thing. I would say that our chances with this guy is comparable, and would like to try them in combat. But game do not let me. By the way: there is medkit in the car. I finished story mode twice, on normal and hardcore, but didn't used it even once. Why it even here? All this quite unfortunate. Hardcore mode actually feels closer to the classic Thief trilogy (you pay attention to your surroundings, and listen carefully to understood what people around you doing) but both instant faliure and the fact that the author (one of ingame hints suggest that there is one developer) messed up with save system even more on hardcore mode spoiling the experience a bit. [*] New tools which you have is very limited . You also can carry only four sleeping darts with you (Yes, you heard me right: not forty four. Not even a dozen. Four), and police officers absolutely immune to the sleeping gas and darts. By the way, you can purchase cloaking device after finishing the story (before that you will most likely will not have enough money) but for the post-game item it very limited (provides invisibility for one minute, with two minutes cooldown) and, more importantly, it's barely working: If I activate it in a house after being detected, tenants still will be close following me. If I leave house afterwards, police on the scene will rush out of the door and right in my direction. Does not work on the devil at all, and strange car circling around Futuristic Museum almost instantly detects me (and call three stars chase) regadless of if I am invisible, or not. [*]Another flaw is detection . It seems that locals have some kind of superpowers: sometimes they can feel you even throuch solid objects (like concrete walls) and on significat distances. For example, one time I was quietly sitting in the closed garage, with lights off, minding my own bysiness. Out of the blue, police was called. Another time I was standing about twenty meters away from the street in the side alley, hacking some security system — and got detected by a passing car. Isn't this guy supposed to watch over road or something? [*]Another significant flaw (at least, for me) — almost total lack of house customization . In the first game, I was spend a lot of time decorating my second hideout, placing furnure etc. I even zoned the big room with different wallpapers on different parts of it! None of this present in the second game. You can order overall renovation, change entire wallpaper and floor for a room, and order some small impovements. And thats it. [*]In the first game there was mechanic for dismanle cars . It was a bit frustrating for me at the beginning, but later I actually found it fun — and it tells something, because I am totally not a car person! In the second part, it... still here, but noticeably watered down. More that this: you can buy a special item to "increase speed of car dissasembly". Like, why, just why it here? "Some fun removed from the game. Do you like to remove even more fun?" And if you steal some car twice, in your garage it will be already dissasempled — at very least, this happened to me when I tried it. [*]There is a few noticable bugs : for example, when I almost finished Devil's Lair, I was stuck in the room with pentagram because mannequins spawned right at the exit , and I have to do a whole heist all over again. Also, one time I encountered something that looked like water in the pool. I, of course, immediately decided to try, can the protaginist swim, or not. What actually happened — I fell below the game level. [*]There is also some minor flaws , for example, there is no full maps of the neighborhoods, and sound produced by the protaginst while consuming beer make survival mode physically repulsive for me as a player. So, do I recommend this game? Yes. Yes, I has kind of "roller coaster" experience, and game have quite of few flaws — yet, regardless of them, it still fun to play.
