2K and Gearbox have updated their EULA to be one of the worst and most invasive Terms of Service that has ever been drafted in the industry. You can and will be banned / locked out of your game if you do anything 2K and Gearbox deems as inappropriate or cheating, including modding single player games, and they demand kernel-level access to scan, record, and gather your PC's data to sell to their partners. 2K and Gearbox have betrayed the trust and privacy of their customers, do not support them in anyway.

Good game, but after the Take-Two privacy terms update I deleted all my borderlands games. Bye-bye good game

Does it run like shit while simultaneously engulfing your poor GPU in the holiest of flames? Yup. Does most of the story and dialogue make you think that the writers had some kind of severe mental deficiency and it makes you feel geniunely bad to be picking on them? Aye. Does it have DLC that is... ahem... very enthusiastic about lacking in the "getting your money's worth" department? Uh-huh. Is it a bad game, though? Absolutely not. The gunplay is great, there is impressive gear variety, some of the visuals are the most creative I've seen in a while, there are lots of QOL fixes and solutions to problems that were prevalent in previous entries, location recycling is done pretty well and the endgame is overall quite solid (this is what Tarya Gratar in Outriders should have been). Plus they've made collectibles actually matter. Nice. Gameplay-wise this is way better than BL3 and is most definitely worth picking up at a discounted price. Now let's watch them drive BL4 directly into the ground.

Rewriting this after playing another like 23-ish hours, This game is phenomenal, it has the gameplay of borderlands 3 without the story issues, almost every moment has felt fun and engaging, the multiclass system is amazing and offers so much versatility in builds. Obviously there are still issues, the overworld still makes everything feel disconnected to me, and the ridiculous amount of collectables hidden in corners of maps can be really disheartening for trying to 100%. Something I had heard about the game was the abysmal endgame, similar criticism to what I had heard about the pre-sequel, my personal favourite in the series, and boy, upon reaching it it's so much worse. The mirrors aren't meant to be endgame content but they're super repetetive quick-ish runs where you notice the bad of the design about 10x as often as the good, maybe I'm just coping because redmourne on difficulty 3 nullified my entire build but having bosses me outright immune to damage types (seriously both elements I use? c'mon man) is something really annoying that feels even worse when you don't even get particularly good loot. The chaos chambers seem ok but, 100 chaos levels just feels like lazy content padding reminiscent of the mayhem levels and OP levels in 2 and 3. Really really wish there was proper story DLC in this game, seeing "Dragon Lord" as the content source on lootlemon got me excited for the possibility of playing a story DLC about the story of the dragon lord's rise, only to find out it's a content pack that you get with the season pass that gives you a spell and gun in the mail. I know this review sounds bad but it's really hard to go wrong with playing a borderlands game, I've spent the past 4-ish paragraphs kind of complaining but that's probably because I'm in the headspace of having just done mirrors and getting real disappointed at their content. TL;DR Even with it's flaws this is an amazing game and a wonderful addition to the borderlands franchise (although it isn't technically a 'borderlands' game) I hope if you get the chance you play this game and enjoy it as much as I did.

I honestly wanted to give this game a negative recommendation after I finished the main story last year. I've since reloaded my save and played the post-game and I had a few realizations that swayed my opinion. Let me get this out of the way: the main story content is awful. It's cheesy, cringey, and too childish in a lot of places. The idea in its core is cool and unique, and the antagonist is great. But the execution and especially writing could be so much better. The side quests are not much of an improvement, with most of them being either forgettable or similarly cheesy. The dice system is a good idea on paper, and they're fun to collect. My main issue with it is that the dice themselves are so unrewarding once you do get them. You can get an amazing roll and still only get a blue. Matter of fact, the loot in this game is awful when compared to BL2's and especially BL3's. You're literally 80% of your way through the game and you still get whites and greens. Item management is also a nightmare, with it being harder then ever to determine which loot is better than the other. I do also have some minor issues, like a lot of the bosses being either too easy (the cthulhu boss) or one-shotting you out of nowhere (the ice skeleton boss). I also wish the game pushed its fantasy theme more rather than just being another Borderlands game but with spells as grenades. What changed my mind with the game are a few things. Once you get near the end, you do get hooked into the story and it ends in a somewhat satisfactory way. You also start to get purples regularly as you reach the end, which are fun to use and essentially "activate" your build. Speaking of which, the skill trees and character building in this game is just as good if not better than BL3's. I did also have fun with the spells, even if you do end up trashing 99% of them. The Chaos Chambers are also really fun. In fact, this is the first time that I actually wanted to engage with a Borderlands game's end-game content. I do wish that the game received a few more patches before it was abandoned. It's a good but flawed experience.
