It's more TOEM, so it's a very sweet and earnest game. I sort of wish they did a little bit more different, but overall it's a very nice and rewarding experience. Be warned that it's much shorter than the original!

TOEM 2 was one of my most anticipated games of the year. The first TOEM is still one of my favorite indie games, so I was really excited for the sequel. Both TOEM games are fun, simple and cozy adventures that I find really relaxing to play. Visually, TOEM 2 is definitely an improvement over the first game. The world feels much more lively and detailed, while still keeping the charm and magic that made the first game so special. The gameplay has also been expanded with some new mechanics and tools. You can use things like a screwdriver to repair certain objects and scissors to cut apples from trees. You can also jump and climb now, which makes exploring feel a little more interesting and varied compared to the first game. And of course, the quirky and funny characters are back too! The characters and their humor are a big part of what makes TOEM so charming to me, and they really make the world of TOEM 2 feel complete. I definitely think TOEM 2 looks better and has more interesting gameplay than the first game. However, it also felt shorter to me. Maybe that’s because I was already familiar with TOEM and knew how everything worked this time around, but I think I secretly expected a little more from the sequel after looking forward to it for so long. So I’m definitely hoping we might get some DLC in the future. Overall, TOEM 2 was absolutely worth playing, even though it felt a little short to me. If you enjoyed the first TOEM, I definitely recommend playing the sequel. And if you’ve never played the first game, I highly recommend giving that one a try too! TOEM 2 also runs perfectly on Steam Deck.

TOEM 2 is just as cute and wholesome as the first game, although a bit shorter (my playtime is definitly inflated from beeing AFK). You are on another photography adventure, solving minor puzzles for the people in the world (usually from finding what they are looking for and taking a photo of it.), finding various animals and creatures and so on. There where a few pretty interesting puzzles that required a bit more thinking, but for the most part they where pretty straight forward. I think I liked the first one a bit more, but that's mostly because it was a bit more substantial and this didn't really add much new other than giving you a special tool for each area, but at the same time removed some special photos. Achievements are all basically doing everything in each area, finding every costume item and doing a few special actions, many that you will probably do natrually playing the game, and the rest are pretty easy to figure out from the names. Nothing is missable.

I want to love this game more, but I can't stop comparing it to the first game that just felt better in a lot of ways. Some of the fun and magic is still found in TOEM 2, but the world feels so much smaller and the game is way shorter than the first one, even if you take your sweet time just looking around and having photoshoots. I was surprised that a lot of the stuff we saw in the trailer was pretty much what the game has to offer, which was a bit disappointing to see. I thought once we would get all the tools we would have to combine those tool using skills in a new area, as I thought there would me more to explore, but got surprised when I loaded the game in and had 90% of it already finished on the save file after exploring just 3 areas. It's still a fun game and I love the updated graphics, songs, fun characters, funny references to pop culture and outfits, but I do feel like the full price is a bit too much so definitely get it on sale to get more of your moneys worth in regards to the play time. I highly recommend getting the first game and playing through that. And then if you feel like you want a bit more TOEM in your life, try this one out, but be prepared that it might not be as magical experience as the first installment.

To get this out of the way, this is a good game. It's still just as charming and fun as the first game. However, it really does not feel like a fully fleshed out sequel to the first game, rather just an expansion. The Game is much shorter than the first game, I finished it just under four hours. The original took me twice as long to finish. The first Toem has 6 areas (and 1 DLC area). This game has 5. If you take away the starter areas and the ending areas, the main playable areas are 4 to 3. These new levels feel much smaller and more streamlined. The gameplay is also considerably easier. In the first game I had to use a guide to solve some of the puzzles. In Toem 2 every thing is just laid out in really obvious spots and places. Most of the quests are just, "pick up some items off the ground", or press the A button on something, or "hang this thing wherever you feel like it there's no solution", or "go take a picture of this specific thing". The character in the comedy club is a great example. He has a joke about bicycles, but he can't remember what they look like. He pretty much just tells you to take a picture of one of the many bikes around the level. Many solutions are like this, where you are simply told to do something and not think about it too much. The new "mechanics'" of this game are the tools and the Jump button, but to be fair they did not really do much with the mechanics. Tools are simple puzzles and only usable in the level they are found in. Jumping just adds some verticality to the worlds, but most of the jumping "puzzles" are really simple. I am torn because I really want to support this series and really loved the first game, but I cannot recommend this game at full price. Wait for a sale. It's just too short, too easy, and too shallow.
