Gecko Gods is an open world adventure where you control a gecko as it explores a small archipelago and solves puzzles to open temples and awake the gods. For the most part, it is a chill experience. You travel at your leisure and run, jump, and sail your way from island to island. You go up, you go down, you go sideways. You survive leaps from great heights and gravity is never a problem. The music is relaxing and the gecko is cute (especially if you customize its color)! Although you can die, it takes a major misstep to do so. In most situations, the gecko recovers from injuries quickly and keeps moving. For some, this game may not be difficult enough. I liked the fact that very precise platforming was not required and that most puzzles could be figured out without too much strain. Even the few slider puzzles were very simple. If you are observant and understand basic mechanics (pullies, mirrors, wires, etc.), you will have no trouble. Most achievements are story related, with a few tied to collectibles. The game clearly tracks your progress on collectibles and there is an excellent achievement guide published by the Spire of Completion Steam Group. I am not a fan of the save system in Gecko Gods. Auto-saves are intermittent and it is not always clear when a save has occurred. There is no way to check on your last save without exiting, so it is easy to lose progress. It would be nice if you could see the timestamp on your most recent save file, before you left the game. So, I’m loving this game and having a blast catching bugs and locating relics until I hit the very end. For some reason, the development team inserted a final escape exercise which requires perfect timing and is extremely unforgiving. Grrr... After finding every collectible and breaking every clay pot, this gauntlet is now my personal roadblock to completing the game. To add insult to injury, the sequence starts all over when you fail. If there is a save point along the way, I have yet to find it. So, my final verdict is that I loved the 15+ hours I spent playing Gecko Gods (adjusting for time paused so as to not lose progress). I really hated the last few minutes and have not yet managed to survive to the end. I will keep trying and will either succeed or decide that 100% is not worth the effort. I recommend this game to those who enjoy a chill adventure that is primarily about exploring, discovering, and solving fairly easy environmental puzzles. You will get your money’s worth, even if you are not able or willing to escape the final temple. For those who sail through to the end without breaking a sweat, “You’re a better gecko than I am, Gunga Din!” Added Note - As of June 25, the ending escape sequence was updated to help slow or uncoordinated geckos make it out alive. With this modification, I was able to finish the game. A big "thank you" to the Gecko Gods!
What a n utterly fantastic and wonderful little puzzle game! You play as a little Gecko washed up on new and unfamiliar shores whereupon you must solve puzzles, hunt relics and try the most delicious bugs! And there might even be a little prophecy to fulfil while you're at it!! The art style is so adorable and cute, the soundtrack is jolly and really adds to the atmosphere. You can collect gems which you use to unlock new colours and styles so you can really personalise your Gecko. I found it charming and rather serene. Controls can be a little wonky (but that also might just be me XD) and it's pretty straightforward to 100% I highly recommend, 10/10 would Gecko again <3
Turn off brain, become lizard. The game is good, however the interface needs some serious work for placement on different size screens. - Main menu stretches below the screen and makes it impossible to navigate - Many elements appear outside of the screen during gameplay I would suggest the developer prioritise reworking/fixing this one ASAP Otherwise game has been smooth, there is a bit of an issue when you are on roofs of "which way is up/forwards" but this is a difficult problem with no perfect solution. I seem to be collecting a currency of some kind but no idea how or where to spend it so far? I hope my collecting is not in vain.
A tiny lizard, cute and sweet. With a stubby tail and sticky feet. It puffed it's chest to look quite tough. Many bugs around but not enough. Fallen long drop into watery grief. When I missed a bug and hit a leaf. Play this game a tiny lizard. Become a jumping puzzle wizard.
