Genuinely really cool! It's got the tacticality of a weird 90s mini game, and the narrative of finding an old copy of Dark Sun. It's a roguelike of course, with individual card decks for each of your three characters, and progression is slow and deep enough that you can log a lot of hours if this game really clicks. Its narrative is a little weak, but its world is fun and there's more writing than is strictly required. The difficulty is also pretty darn high---you have to know what you're doing with each character build, and have the key cards for their playstyle, *and* manage your resources correctly. Playing a card functionally costs discards, so every time you do something during a turn it thins your options for what you can do next. I'm not smart enough to do this well, but I do think the core concept is neat. As an added bonus, despite conserving a lot of budget graphically, the interface looks really good. It's got that old DnD 3.5 aesthetic with paper tabs and menus you can riffle through. Bugs include some minor visual glitching during complex enemy turns, but don't seem to affect play. I think on sale, this is really safe to check out if you like old minis games. Edit: It's not apparent at first glance, but there's a decent amount of quests to tackle. They unlock as you go, and they each have a custom narrative and some setpieces. It's a nice nod towards the CRPG side of the spectrum, even if none so far have been terribly deep. 2nd Edit: Based on the 10% of people who've completed the second quest, I think a lot of folks get filtered by the high difficulty and length of the runs. The game is also Not Good when it's not giving you a clear objective marker---its mechanics are built around having one, so not only do you feel lost but you're on a timer until automatic game over, a timer which is only really fun as a mechanic when there's stuff you can do to increase it. Bosses are also pretty pushed on normal, and it takes a while for you to unlock enough stuff to have a viable character other than your ranger, so for quite a bit you're stuck in a strategy of "put all your quality boosting items on him, and specialize him into as many ranged cards as you can get." Which can feel flat. None of these critiques take away the amount of game here, or the fact that it'll be a HUGE hit with you if you liked bargain bin PC game jank from the early 00s, but they do make the experience overall a little less general audience friendly. I'm still giving a thumbs up, but I can also see some folks hating it.
Very good game . This games seems to have gone under the radar slightly with only 1599 positive reviews after being out for 4 years . To me this game is up there with the best of the genre and again I am surprised at the lower number of reviews , as to me this game is a very very good game . Had me instantly hooked and the game mechanics work really really well .
