Honestly, this is why Steam needs something in between the Yes and No ratings. Something that says yeah, I'd say it's not a bad game, but it still has problems. Do you absolutely LOVE cleanup games? Then yeah, you might want to take a look at this (hence the reason I said Yes, I recommend this game). But is it the best cleanup game around, or even close? No, not at all! And just to be transparent, I'm over 5 hours in and I still am not half way done. So the positives. First off, it's a cleanup game. Someone came in, threw all of your movie and tv rentals on the floor, and you have to pick them up. All in all, very well done in that respect. It also has a good vibe for this GenX'er. It's just like I'm back at Blockbuster on a Friday night helping my friend who worked there put videos away so he can go out and have fun with us sooner and not have to wait for his lazy ass to finish his job before leaving. The cover art and titles are great, very well done. I'm not sure if they are AI generated or an asset grab or something, but I liked how most of them were fairly original. And with the shear amount of titles, I would think a lot of work was done in this area. But now the negatives! I absolutely HATE the way the skill tree is planned out. You HAVE to take certain skills before others and I think that's an absolute waste of time. I don't use many skills in these types of games, so having to spend points on certain skills I will NEVER use is SO frustrating to me. Do you want to move faster or magnet grab titles directly to your hands? Well, if it's the later, then you're out of luck...FOR QUITE A WHILE! The Sports categories. I have a big issue when things are out of order. So when you have sports categories like Basketball 1980, Basketball 1974, Basketball 1978, etc. it becomes beyond annoying finding a Basketball 1980 first and putting it into the first shelf at the top, then finding a Basketball 1978, then a Basketball 1974. I have sports related shelves where titles are all over the place and I have to spend more time figuring out where a Basketball 1983 goes in a jumbled mess of a shelving system. There is an achievement where you have to complete the game within 6 hours. I know a lot of these cleanup games do that, so it's not specific to this one game, but I seriously DESPISE these types of achievements. I'm trying to get 100% completion on these things and normally this is the one area I fail constantly in. But does it make me want to start over and try again? F*CK NO! I will uninstall immediately after finishing and never touch it again. Moving around the room is definitely annoying. I'm not good at jumping puzzles in games, and sometimes this feels like one. If you need something on one of the side aisles, you can jump on the table to climb to that level. However, if you miss the table once, you're in a 5 min game of why the hell can't I jump on this damn table?!? You'll need a running leap some times and it just frustrates me. Because of the nature of the game, where you have to put tv and movies back onto their respective shelves, it is almost impossible to figure out what genre it is. Is Family First a Drama series? Is it an Action series? Is it a Comedy? ... Or is it just TV? (note: it's just TV). There's no real rhyme or reason to where certain things go. Everything is numbered 1-10, but that doesn't help when trying to figure out what genre it is. With that, why are there genre's and then there's an entire shelf to just "TV Series"? Why wouldn't a comedy TV series be in the comedy section? Or a horror tv series be in horror? Sarah The Vampire Slayer screams Horror to me. Why is it in TV? And the above reference, Family First, why is that in TV and not somewhere else? And before getting the particular skill where you can highlight what shelf videos are supposed to go on, how are you supposed to know where a series called "Family First" is supposed to go?!? There is NOTHING in the title that tells you that. Why is the room organized the way it is? Why is News in the middle of Baseball and Basketball? Cooking between Basketball and Boxing? I just don't understand the layout of the room. I really wish they spent more time figuring this out before publishing the game. But in the end, is this game worth the $5? Again, do you love these cleanup games and it helps ease your ADHD mind seeing a room that is finally clean after the mess that it was at the start? If so, then yeah, probably it is. But if you're on the fence, I would highly suggest starting with another one like Bunker Cleaner or Librarian that allow a lot more flexibility to them. And even if you like these types of games but don't want to buy them all, I'm not sure this is the one for you.
I love this genre. As for this game, it is better than the wine bottle one or the supermarket one, but worse than the original magic library one. Plan accordingly. I kind of wish I had a way to know how each section is going to break down before starting (should I be giving a show 3 shelves or 1?). The "highlight the books in this series" spell is prettier in this game with not just the "through shelves glow" but a pretty rainbow column.
