UBERMOSH:BLACK, serves as the direct second installment in the fast-paced, top-down arena slasher series. Functioning as an expanded, community-focused evolution of the original title, the game drops you back into the neon-soaked cyberpunk mosh pit for another round of 90-second high-intensity survival runs. Armed with a sword and heavy firearms, players must slice incoming projectiles, mow down swarms of hostile combatants, and utilize new psionic abilities to rack up the highest score possible before the timer runs out. The game’s primary strength comes from its tightened combat feedback loop and expanded mechanical roster. BLACK introduces the "Brainclap" psionic wave alongside fresh class modifiers (such as the firearm-free Kensai build), an upgraded ultimate weapon, and an engine optimization that fits up to 30% more enemies on screen simultaneously. Combined with its signature driving industrial synth-rock audio and raw, immediate restart loop, the game provides a punchy, twitch-reflex adrenaline hit that feels slightly more refined than the inaugural entry. However, UBERMOSH:BLACK is still held back by the overarching structural limitations that define the franchise. Because combat takes place within the exact same static arena setup, the gameplay inevitably devolves into repetitive muscle memory once you get used to the higher spawn rates. Furthermore, the tight camera view and cluttered visual effects can cause cheap, unavoidable deaths from off-screen projectiles, making high-score runs rely as much on chaotic luck as pure player skill. A very streamlined little bullet hell that is surprisingly enjoyable to play. The runs can feel very similar, yet the game never becomes truly repetitive because you always want to go for one more run. Very addictive, and at its discounted price, it is an easy recommendation. 100% Steam Achievements Time: 2.9 hours Completion Difficulty: 2/10 Playthrough: 5+ Missable: No Guide Recommended: No DLC Required: No Online Required: No Notable Requirements: Score 300+ with each of the 5 classes; survive an event; score 600+ once.
The game isn't fully polished, there's things like enemies shooting outside of the screen from the top or the bottom that really made my life miserable. Still, there's something really good about the game that makes it really fun to play, it's a short, cool and a little enraging experience. I recommend to use catalyst or warlock for the +600 kills achievement, just spam your shots everywhere and keep moving left and right.
