A solid AA, PS2-era action game featuring a classic Japanese mecha. I love how this game introduces the concepts and story of Grendizer for those who have not watched the show. It is not mindblowing, it is not flawless, and I would even say it is clunky at times, but there is an undeniable charm to this game that is unmatched. I want to see more games like these about other mecha franchises that are not tactics games. Give us Mazinger, Devilman, Steel Jeeg, Raideen, I want to see them all!!!

I have mixed feelings about this game. On one hand, it gets many things right; the voice-acting (I played with Japanese dub), the artstyle, the sound-design, it is all very on-point. You are playing a few episodes of the old UFO Robo Grendizer, and you can tell the game designers are people who loved the show. That being said, this game is a bloody rip-off. I have 15 hours on this. That is 15 hours with like half of them spent running around looking for collectibles. The actual game is like 8 hours? Maybe 10? With 0 replayability. No New Game+, no new difficulty, no Boss Rush mode. Super bane-bones. If it was like 15-20 euros (which is how much I paid on a discount) I'd say it is alright - but 40 euros?! On top of other DLC?! Hell no! Wait for a discount. Most easter-eggs are useless by the way. You get nothing for getting everything. No concept art (which I usually do not care much for) which...how cool would it be, to get concept art of Grendizer and all the Saucer Beasts?! But no. No unlockables. Not even achievements. Not even acknowledgement from the characters! Pointless. Just get what you need to unlock the alternate skins for Grendizer (if you even care) and ignore everything else. Do NOT bother looking around for every last Tori Gate or Gren-Diner and such. There are some stages where you play as Koji in his TFO (Terrestrial Flying Object). Those are basically just very cheap, very basic arcade space-shooters. The game even lets you skip them, on your FIRST playthrough. That is how little they matter. In-between missions, you have a small hub; the ranch and the lab. They are pointless and just waste your time. Nobody has much to say. A simple menu would've sufficed, with actual cut-scenes in-between. Heck, how cool would it be if we had proper animation? This is a game catered to ANIME fans. We would 100% watch some original footage. We'd consider ourselves lucky too. We get to play Grendizer AND watch new episodes of Grendizer, over 40 years later? Yes please! But no. So....what IS good? The gameplay. If you've played Transformers: Devastation on the Playstation....it is very similar. You cannot dock on the Spazer unfortunately, and you do not get any of the other Spazers either. Would've been nice if it could've been included in finishers, or if you could fly around the stages - but no. Only in cutscenes and on rail-roaded space-shooter sections. But fighting on-ground is pretty great. Dodge, block, roll, weave and hit hard. Use all of Grendizer's arsenal (but again, no Spazers); Shoulder Boomerangs, Hand Beam, Screw Punch, Screw-Cruser Punch, Gravity Storm, everything is there! And the voice-actors will hammily shout the names of your attacks every single time. It is great. Ultimately, this game has its heart in the right place - but it does not do enough to warrant its price. It just needed....more. More hours, more story, more fanservice, more variety. You can't go in this expecting something spectacular. This won't change anyone's minds. This is only for Grendizer fans, and Super Robot anime fans in general. So if you want this....get it on a discount. anywhere from 10 to 20 euros is a fair price. You will have a few hours of fun, indulge your nostalgia....then uninstall and probably never touch it again. Which is fine. But I wish we got something more for the King of Space, and for non-Gundam mecha games in general. Alas.

Being a fan of Mazinger Z and it's spin offish series "Mazin Wars" A friend showed me this and said I would like it and after seeing the trailer and a couple videos I was sold. UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER is if mazinger Z was a interactive world game (I am familiar with the Sega Genesis game "Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter"...that was a beat em up with awesome animation!) you feel like you are PLAYING the show, it's a breath of fresh air with all the samey games we've been seeing lately. Has the music, dub and little things that make this title oozing with charm of Mazinger Z. You beat robots up, Cool boss monsters that are intimating and huge and it looks, plays great. One gripe and it's minor. The game seems jittery in 4K for me, but if I put it on 1080P it runs flawless. If you like the old style japan shows like mazinger Z or Ultraman You really should play this, it's a surprise and lots of fun!

For longtime fans of classic mecha anime, UFO Robot Grendizer – The Feast of the Wolves is more than just a game—it’s a time capsule. Based on the legendary Go Nagai series from the 1970s, the game attempts to resurrect the iconic space robot and its brooding pilot, Duke Fleed, for a new generation. Unfortunately, while the heart is in the right place, the execution is more uneven than epic. The game splits its identity across several styles: third-person brawling, rail-shooting segments in space, and occasional on-foot exploration. While this variety keeps the action from feeling too one-note, none of the gameplay types are particularly deep. Combat with Grendizer is flashy but basic—most fights devolve into spamming heavy attacks and waiting for cooldowns. A few standout boss battles bring some excitement, but they’re too far between repetitive skirmishes against identical UFO minions. One welcome feature is the transformation sequences. Switching from the Spazer (flight mode) to robot form mid-fight nails that dramatic anime energy. Still, these moments are often undermined by awkward controls and camera angles that don’t keep up with the action. The art direction is clearly made with love. Grendizer’s design is faithfully recreated, and there's a definite joy in seeing his signature attacks—like Screw Crusher Punch or Space Thunder—unleashed in glorious explosions. But while the models of mechs look decent, environments are sparse and bland, and animations can feel stiff. The soundtrack is a high point, featuring dramatic, orchestral cues that echo the anime’s spirit. But the lack of Japanese voice acting and the flat English performances detract from emotional moments. It’s a missed opportunity not to lean into the series' dramatic roots more fully. The story closely follows the original series: Duke Fleed, a prince from a destroyed planet, defends Earth from the Vegan invasion. The plot is serviceable, if predictable, and the game does a solid job introducing key characters like Koji Kabuto and Professor Umon. But the dialogue is often stilted, and emotional stakes rarely feel earned. You’re told there’s a great war raging, but it often feels like you’re just clearing out waves of cannon fodder. Even on modern consoles, Feast of the Wolves struggles to stay smooth. Frame rate drops are frequent during heavy battles, and I encountered occasional bugs, like enemies getting stuck or audio cutting out. It’s not game-breaking, but it’s enough to sap some of the fun. Rating: 7/10

Feast of Nostalgia – A Journey Back in Time 🥰 Playing Grendizer: Feast of the Wolves felt like stepping into a time machine and revisiting the golden era of giant mecha anime and classic arcade-style gameplay. From the moment the intro sequence played, with its faithful recreation of the legendary robot and its universe, I was hit with an overwhelming wave of nostalgia. The game isn’t just a love letter to UFO Robot Grendizer—it’s a tribute to a time when mecha battles were larger than life, stories were simple yet grand, and gameplay was all about the thrill of the fight. The visuals and presentation capture the essence of the original anime, from the vibrant explosions to the classic sound effects that transport you straight back to childhood. The gameplay itself is reminiscent of old-school action games, with beat-’em-up sequences, side-scrolling shooting sections, and intense mech battles that feel like something straight out of the past. It doesn’t try to reinvent the genre, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It sticks to a formula that worked back then, delivering a straightforward yet satisfying experience that’s all about piloting Grendizer and smashing through waves of enemy forces. Of course, this game isn’t for everyone. It doesn’t aim for modern complexity or deep mechanics—it’s a game for those who want to relive a specific era, and in that regard, it succeeds beautifully. The controls may feel a little stiff at times, and the combat, while fun, doesn’t have the depth of more modern titles. But for me, that didn’t matter. I wasn’t playing Grendizer for innovation—I was playing it to recapture that feeling of sitting in front of a screen as a kid, mesmerized by the sight of a giant robot saving the day. If you grew up watching Grendizer or have a soft spot for classic mecha action, this game is a nostalgic gem. It’s a rare experience that lets you relive those childhood memories in an interactive way. It may not be for everyone, but for those who appreciate its retro charm, it’s a trip back in time worth taking.
