As someone who loves detective and puzzle games, Unheard - Voices of Crime grabbed my interest right away. This mystery game takes a different approach by making you solve crimes through sound alone. You play as a detective who pieces together stories by listening. You're essentially a fly on the wall. You eavesdrop on conversations and pick up environmental sounds to reconstruct the events leading up to a crime. You're working toward two objectives in every level. First, you need to match voices to the right characters. Second, you answer important questions about the case. You move around the crime scene using a virtual map, and the audio shifts depending on where you position yourself. This means you'll replay the same audio clip several times to catch all the details you need. The other characters show up as dotted circles on your map. When they talk, you see a visual equalizer effect around them. Once you match names to these circles, you can follow where characters go throughout the scene, even when you're listening from a different room. Each case is really well crafted and exciting to solve. I found them genuinely satisfying to work through. The cases get more complex as you progress through the five main scenarios (plus additional DLC content). The later cases throw bigger maps at you, along with longer recordings and more characters to track. This makes careful listening really important, and you'll definitely want to take notes. Thankfully, you can add notes directly to the audio timeline, which helps you remember key moments. I'd recommend using headphones when you play. The audio quality is solid, with background sounds that really pull you into each scene. The voice acting works well overall. Some performances are a bit over the top, but this actually helps you tell characters apart, which matters since the game depends entirely on audio. One important note: people with hearing difficulties should know the game doesn't include subtitles. This could make it challenging or impossible to play.

Fantastic game! It is a work picking detective game but you need to move around a map, identify all characters and listen to their stories going on to answer some queries. Generally, who is the killer and then unique questions. 5 levels and free DLC level, well worth the money for a chilled evening. If you like detective games, add this to the top of the list

Wow. I haven't had such an incredible time with a mystery game in so long. I originally bought this game because it was the last game my brother played on steam before he passed away. I see why he got it. We both like mystery puzzle games, so for him to play this doesn't surprise me. It gave me something to connect with my brother in his remembrance. Other than to remember my brother, the gameplay is AMAZING. I've been looking for a mystery solving game like this for a long time, so to play this was incredible! I was worried that I'd have to cheat for some of the mysteries, but it felt incredible to actually solve the puzzles on my own. I highly recommend this to ANYONE who'd love a good mystery!

Disclaimer that I've only played the base game, not the DLCs. This is one of those cases where the lack of nuances in Steam reviews gets in the way of a good evaluation. This is a 5.5/10 for me, but I'd find it unfair to give it a negative review. The game is fine, you can solve the 5 cases that come with the base game with relative ease in less than 4 hours and I'd say it's fun for its whole duration. Problem is the real game is not solving the cases, but correctly matching the names with the voices - once you do that, you can brute-force the actual answers to the crimes and that's it. The whole atmosphere of the game tries to convince you that something creepy is or will happen, but without much substance. You finish the game with a feeling of "that's it?". Also, the achievements don't make much sense - why would I torture myself by not using the fast-forward option in a 13-minute clip I've been listening to for the 4th time? I've found other detective games, such as Return of the Obra Dinn and The Case of the Golden Idol, way more enjoyable. Either way, Unheard still deserves some respect for trying - and partially succeding - to give a new approach to the genre. If you're looking for some quick detective fun, this game will do it. I'd recommend to only buy it on a sale tho.
