Voor De Kroon hits the sweet spot between historical accuracy and enjoyable gameplay. Introduction and Campaign The combat is very fun, whether you're fighting personally, building your forces, or playing through the campaign. In the campaign, you can construct new structures to manage food, materials, and other resources, recruit troops, and deploy them in battles to determine who is the stronger lord. As the game's description indicates, the vanilla campaign centers on the Friso-Hollandic Wars of the 13th century (though you can download alternative campaigns from the Steam Workshop or create your own). The campaign progresses through turns, where you must decide whether to maintain peace or strike at your enemies before they do the same to you. Castle Creator & Tournaments One of the standout features for me is the castle creator. There are countless pieces and details you can place, allowing me to spend hours perfecting a defensive layout for sieges or simply making it look impressive. Tournaments are another great addition that help close the gameplay loop. They are included in the campaign where you are being challenged by other lords. This can increase your status if you win, resulting in more diplomatic options for you. The foot tournaments are excellent, with fluid and cool moves. Jousting, however, feels a bit oversimplified in its current state, relying on just a couple of key presses - which highlights that the game is still in Early Access. Updates & Comparison That said, the developer (Future Minimalism) is incredibly dedicated, releasing frequent updates with impressive speed. He shares WIP footage or information about new updates on his Voor De Kroon Discord Server. This level of polish and ongoing fixes is crucial, as it contrasts sharply with another medieval fighting game that launched into Early Access in a poor condition and with optimization issues (mhmm.. I'm looking at you Half Sword). Voor De Kroon, by comparison, runs smoothly even with hundreds of troops on screen. A star of the future...? Animations blend seamlessly for fluid combat, and there are many brutal finishing moves that add to the visceral feel. The game has tremendous potential and could evolve in exciting directions. Currently, it's PvE-only, which might deter some players looking for multiplayer. The developer hasn't announced PvP yet, but if added, it could elevate the game significantly - imagine commanding an army with archers and cavalry while your opponent (or friend) defends with stakes and pikes, leading to truly cinematic moments. It blends elements of Manor Lords (settlement building and management), Mount & Blade (personal combat and troop command), and Total War (large-scale battles and strategy). Personal Summary In my 83 hours of playtime, I've encountered very few bugs, none of which were major or game-breaking. The customization is extensive: create your own campaigns, factions, coat of arms, and more. This lets you recreate historical noble families, wars, or castles. There are plenty of weapons and armor options (the game boasts some of the best great helm variety out there, from early Crusader great helms to later styles with great helms over bascinets for mounted combat). Optional DLCs (one contains 14th. century gear like hounskull bascinets or the great helm over bascinet that I mentioned before, and another adds fantasy items) keep things strictly in the 13th-century Friso-Hollandic Wars era if you prefer avoiding later-period gear. Banners and clothing feature realistic physics, reacting to wind and soldier movements. Overall, this is a very solid medieval battle game with tons of possibilities. For an Early Access title at its price point, you're getting excellent value and a promising foundation. Pros: [*]Strong balance of historical accuracy and fun gameplay [*]Smooth performance, even in large battles with hundreds of troops [*]Deep castle creator and extensive customization options (factions, campaigns, coat of arms, etc.) [*]Fluid, brutal combat with great animations and finishing moves [*]Engaging campaign with turn-based strategy and resource management [*]Frequent, dedicated updates from the developer [*]Minimal bugs in my experience [*]Unique focus on 13th-century Friso-Hollandic Wars setting Cons: [*]Currently PvE-only (no PvP or multiplayer announced yet) [*]Jousting mechanics feel oversimplified and could use more depth [*]Still in Early Access, so some features (like jousting which was mentioned above) are rough around the edges [*]May appeal more to fans of strategy-action hybrids than pure multiplayer enthusiasts

Definitely inspired from both Total War and Bannerlord! I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far. With the campaign map and features to the battlefield and the customization like creating your own faction, customizing your leader and even you're troops like their equipment and stats. You can physically create castles from the ground up and actually implement them into your game to make them your capital and such. You're able to even create your own campaign maps! That's crazy to me. The best part is, is that there's the STEAM WORKSHOP! Meaning you can download other players custom factions, castles, maps and even entire campaigns! Currently, there's a couple really good campaigns like the Crusades and even Game of Thrones with their all unique custom factions, cities and troops. The game is still in early access but there is definitely HUGE promise! I can easily see this being a huge competitor with Total War and Bannerlord, which is MUCH needed!! This game could easily potentially be the best of both worlds with some more hard work. This developer has been working hard at pushing out updates. (faster than Bannerlord funny enough) Keep up the great work, I'm LOVING creating custom factions with custom units. Currently working on making a Kingdom Underfire faction.

My pants have had a perma-tent since opening this game. After discovering you can create your own units and edit your commander, among a plethora of other customizations you can make, I noticed how fast the blood was draining from my extremities and into my cod piece area. This game is great, and aslong as it sees attention and progression in the areas that its a bit lacking in, i'll keep cheering it on.

A very promising Bannerlord Competitor! without it being fully cloning Bannerlord! Voor De Kroon is, believe it or not, feels like it is its own thing, the Battle are much different, because the damage is much more realistic, and the morale break mechanic are a percect blend of Bannerlord and Total War, and the combat complexity also raised a notch without it being too cumbersome, the campaign is much more simplistic and feels like a civ playtrough, its addicting. please support this game if you can, its a very much promising competitor to bannerlord, which we direly need

Voor de Kroon genuinely changed who I am as a person. Before playing it, I struggled with confidence and often avoided taking initiative. But the game pushed me to step into the role of a leader — making tough decisions, managing resources, and taking responsibility for the outcomes. Over time, those skills started bleeding into real life. I became more assertive, better at organizing, and more comfortable handling pressure. It even helped me land a job — during the interview, I was able to talk about how I learned strategy, leadership, and planning through gaming, and they were impressed by how I applied those lessons. What started as a hobby ended up making me a more capable, confident, and focused version of myself.
