TL:DR - Recommended, but with major Early Access warnings. This game has a fantastic foundation with great gunplay, movement, roles, vehicles, logistics, and combined-arms gameplay. When you get a balanced match where everyone is actually fighting to win, it's an absolute blast. Unfortunately, the systems surrounding that gameplay are currently working against it. I still recommend WARDOGS because the core game is simply that much fun, but go in knowing that there are major systemic issues that desperately need to be addressed by the developers. The actual foundation of WARDOGS is fantastic. The gunplay feels good, the movement feels good, the different roles have distinct purposes, and the combination of infantry, helicopters, logistics, base construction, vehicles, mortars, and objective combat creates the potential for an incredible combined-arms milsim sandbox. This game feels like many that came before it: Arma King of the Hill, Call of Duty, Battlefield, PUBG, Squad, and even PlanetSide. Yet despite similarities, WARDOGS is a unique experience unto itself. A unique FPS experience! This is HUGE! When you get a genuinely balanced match where all factions are fighting over the objective and bases are being built for strategic reasons rather than simply farming money, the game is an absolute blast. That's what makes the current Early Access issues so frustrating. The game itself is fun. The systems surrounding it are encouraging players not to play the fun part. My hope is that the developers are watching everything and will make adjustments. Again, we are in Early Access, so there is plenty of time to let this game cook. I do think you should buy this game, but go in knowing that there are core issues I believe need to be addressed. Here are my suggestions: 1. Faction stacking: Green has effectively become the "winning" aka "sweat" faction, Red is often overflow, and Blue regularly becomes the dumping ground for beginners, solos who don't care, or players AFKing while waiting to switch. Randomized faction assignment would go a long way toward fixing this. Or maybe add more faction colors? Gold, Orange, Purple, etc. 2. No proper party system: Playing with friends can mean waiting through server queues and then another 20–30 minutes trying to get everyone onto the same faction. The game needs a proper pre-match party system that keeps groups together. Maybe limit group sizes so server stacking does not become an issue? 3. Mid-match faction switching: Players can scout enemy bases, switch factions, and immediately attack positions they just discovered. It also enables deliberate sabotage before switching teams. Players should be faction-locked once the match begins. 4. Infantry economy: A decent infantry kit can cost around $10k–$14k and require multiple kills just to break even. Meanwhile, logistics and base building can generate money far more safely. Infantry rewards need to be significantly increased. 5. Logistics kills aren't rewarded properly: Ambushing a loaded enemy truck can pay almost nothing because rewards are based largely on the player's kit rather than the strategic value of the supplies being destroyed. Loaded logistics vehicles should have substantial rewards attached to them. 6. Forward Operating Base and mortar farming: Building structures and sitting inside giant mortar FOBs is safer and more profitable than actually fighting over the objective. This leads to matches where huge portions of both teams sit inside tower FOBs shelling each other instead of fighting. Mortars are also too cheap to build, and players can shoot three at once. I also think the chase cam needs to be re-envisioned, as it gives players far too much information. As of right now, mortars are too strong and need to be reworked. 7. Vehicle imbalance: Rocket/minigun Little Birds and MG Humvees provide enormous combat power for relatively little cost. Vehicles should be powerful without making infantry irrelevant. Artillery tanks cost less than a decent infantry kit and can be purchased at the start of the game. This needs to be adjusted as well. (This also ties into the mortar issue above. Similar issue.) 8. Winning doesn't matter enough: The economy is more important than the actual match result. Winning needs to provide a substantially larger reward so players have a reason to risk their equipment and fight over the objective instead of farming money. 9. Progression wipes and the grind: I am not against wipes. However, I would like to see the game become less of a grind before the wipe happens. As an example, it takes 60+ hours of playing Recon just to hit level 50. Resetting money and levels every few months makes the experience significantly worse for anyone who can't play constantly. And I am aware that pre-wipe rewards are coming... I still think less of a grind is warranted. Or make some of the very strong items (like the tank) a little more of a grind, but make AP ammo types and other more useful things less of a grind. Overall a balance pass on unlocks and experience would be a good idea, in my opinion. 10. Please add OFFICIAL infantry-only servers: It would be fun to see some official variety, as the community infantry-only servers don't seem to get played much. (Maybe hardcore too.) There is a genuinely great game underneath all of this. The developers don't need to reinvent the core gameplay. They need to fix the systems that are currently being abused and do a rebalance pass. We have seen this before with games like ARC Raiders and to a lesser degree Helldivers 2... A monumental EA launch but loses their player base because they fail to continue to deliver what their community is asking for. However, I think they will. I am a believer! I think they'll use Early Access to make this into a great game, and that is why I suggest you pick it up and give it a shot!

Perfect middle ground if you're tired of Arma and Battlefield. It's not as arcadey as Battlefield and not as hardcore as Arma. Devs are listening to players and care about what people have to say. Community is great too. Genuinely the most fun I've had in an fps game since 2018 Tarkov.

As someone who loves Arma 3 KOTH, Hell Let Loose, and old school Battlefield games.. this feels like the perfect mix of the three. The economy system is such a great way to incentivize team play. Teammates almost always go for revives or wait for a full vehicle before leaving spawn because it’s actually worth it, especially for new players that are broke. Proximity VOIP across all teams is amazing, immersive, and hilarious. The logistics and FOB building is amazing, and it’s still early on. You can get very creative for cheap. I’d love to see even more defensive placements and weapons to deploy. It seems very balanced, as a skilled group of 6-8 guys can do serious damage The gunplay is nice, there’s a good skill-based element to it. It’s not too easy like BF6 or COD, but still satisfying for good aimers. I could write more, but I’m so happy to see a dev team making something refreshing that isn’t copy and paste extraction-slop.

Wardogs feels like a combination of Battlefield 3 and Arma. There is no bunny hopping, slide canceling, or insane movement speed. Just good old fashion FPS goodness and I love it.
