“Push the button… Well done” At a thrift store in 2007 my brother and I finally got our hands on a copy of this game. As children we had come into Warhammer through friends and their older siblings. The Tau were new and fresh. I still own a copy of the White Dwarf (Warhammer Magazine), with their announcement. This was like Medal of Honor or Halo according to the magazine clippings we had. The cover art for this game alone, had us believing that the Tau could actually be as cool as Space Marines! We eagerly installed it onto the family computer ready to finally see how Tau weapons work in first person. Then the game wouldn’t load into the first level, disappointing the pair of us immensely. Now, as an adult, I have finally had the fortune of playing this digital release. It certainly is an acquired taste. In fact, actually playing Fire Warrior was like smoking a cigarette for the first time. It feels unnatural, wrong and makes you feel nauseous. Many other reviewers have criticised the weapon spread and/or the aim acceleration problems, but I found it easier with time. Frankly, I was just glad the game run after loading the configuration tool and setting my resolution and other keybind settings. I recommend shifting grenade to “G”, switch weapon to “Q” as that felt much more natural. That being said, I strongly recommend sticking to your native resolution at 60fps. I did experience two crashes during my playtime, milage may vary. Fire Warrior has the narrative subtlety of a Fast & Furious movie. This feels very low budget, with stock sounds, bad mixing and low texture detail. The reuse of voicelines is obvious and blaring alarms can be grating, even in the context of a lower budget title. At least most of the alarms can actually be disabled by interacting with a button somewhere in each level. Amusingly, my girlfriend saw me playing from across the room asked if I was playing an older Halo, which explains that comparison in older reviews. In spite of all this, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy blowing through this game and revelling in the 2000s camp. The coloured keys/doors felt more at home in Boltgun (another 40k shooter) but playing this game with the knowledge that I could be playing Boltgun didn’t dissuade me. It was entertaining that you probably fight alongside just as many Ultramarines as you do fellow Tau. Strangely over half of the game you are lugging around Imperial based weapons as your primary weapon. I was more disappointed on the lack of a single big battlesuit or Tau tank appearing, even fighting alongside fellow Fire Warriors is a novelty. I would say that the game did do what GW intended, it is a straightfaced advert for Warhammer 40,000 and their “new” (at the time) faction, the Tau Empire. It certainly made me want to open up my next Tau project and start assembling/painting. Even now, I wonder if we will ever get a “Fire Warrior Kais” commemorative model to tie into the hobby… hopefully one day! Between Kais & Malum Caedo (Boltgun protagonist) they are both in the running for most single handedly lethal individual in the galaxy. It would be criminal not to have models to celebrate them. This re-release has made me hopeful we can get a series revival in future that can actually give a Tau game a bit more “Tau” stuff. I hope future Warhammer games will continue to branch out from the “old faithful” Space Marines. “For the Greater Good!” || Buy on discount. Nostalgia goggles recommended (sold separately) ||
Hi! Long time reader very rare commenter. I see a fair amount of the reviews are saying this game is terrible. Well have I got news for you! It is in fact really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible. However, if you want to be brought back to a time when your knees did not hurt and bills were not a thing you thought about then by jings is this the game for you. Through rose tinted glasses i remember my introduction to the 40k universe looking much better than this. How wrong i was. I also remember being good at this game... How wrong i was. If you played the original back on the PS2 then you know what to expect. If you didnt buy the og then honestly.... This game is 1000% definitely not worth the money unless you know what you're getting yourself into. 10/10 would buy again.
Open FireWarrior.exe in a hex editor (HxD is free). Find -> Replace. Replace all instances of gamespy.com with openspy.net and hey now multiplayer works. idk why the devs didn't do this themselves and ship with functional multiplayer. Hopefully they can do it in a patch. Literally only takes seconds.
