Warlord: Almost There What I Liked My problem with games like Mount and Blade is that they are too complicated. What I like about this game is that it focuses on the combat most of the time, leaving me to do things that I like to do. The base building, more like camp building, is also pretty fun. It is nice to go from a few small tents to a fully decked out camp that looks neat almost anywhere it can be placed. What I Did Not Like While I do like the game, there are just some minor issues that prevent it from being great. While the combat is good and the game attempts to build on to it, the layers end up being boring. Eventually a new weapon type is unlocked, or a new building to attack, but it just never adds to the game. I am still going to point to point zerging until I win. The initial load time is bonkers. It slags up my entire PC, and a couple times I had to force close the game. Why I Stopped Playing I enjoyed what I did over the 12 or so hours I played, but I wasn’t interested in doing the same thing for the next 12 hours. Disclaimer I have been a gamer for over 30 years. I tend to play mostly PC games. I also bounce around between games A LOT. I may purchase a $70 game and play it for 2 hours or spend $10 on a game and spend 50 hours on it. Even if I played a game for a short time, it does not mean it is bad. It just means another game caught my attention. I also complain about flaws in games a lot, even about the littlest of things. Keep that in mind when reading my reviews. If I do not have a complaint, then the game must be special!
This is an amazing game that was truly worth the wait, the combat is a huge improvement upon the first game, Warlord: Britannia, and the attention to detail and loyalty to historical authenticity is genuinely amazing. While not immediately obvious this game dose have some strategy where you can attack certain settlements that are protecting others, or go head on and take both the settlements garrison and a raid from a neighboring Samurai Mansion, as well as the ability to customize the position of your troops when you go to combat, this game can be both simple or complex depending on how you look at the combat. I would also ask you to ignore most of the negative reviews, while there are some occasional performance issues and the load time into the map can be lengthy, the ones that seem to be the least insightful are the ones about repetitive gameplay, in which thins game is not, the starter region evolves as you go north, and when you venture south into the 2nd region the combat switches up with both the enemies and you getting new equipment, with 10 regions the game is constantly evolving as you progress, it feels as if a lot of reviews have only been spent walking around the 1st region with no idea of the havoc that is available in the later regions.
I enjoy this developers game style, but this isn't for everyone. FOR ANYONE READING THIS DO NOT FORGET TO SAVE YOUR GAME, THERE IS NO AUTO SAVE. @developer, If you aren't going to add an autosave at least put a reminder system in. Just lost 75 minutes of gameplay, have to restart from scratch now. All in all decent game, buggy slightly but a step up from Britanna. I think 30 CAD is step for this game, lots of play time for sure but repetative. Was hoping for a bit more on this second iteration, maybe with some updates it'll improve.
