I play this game when I want to switch my brain off an blow stuff up to a nice soundtrack. The game is a bit of a slog until you upgrade your ship enough. After you beat the end boss a few times and know which upgrades are most effective, playing the game becomes far more relaxing.
Surprisingly fun. The more you play it the better it gets as you start getting accustomed to the in-run perks and better understand the choices presented and how will they affect your run. This choices given at random will affect how you will proceed through the run. All in all a fun game you can pick a have a few goes every now and then unless you really love on-rails shooters
I really like it. It’s a compact yet entertaining arcade-style shooter. You can clear the three acts in about an hour, earning currency along the way to upgrade your ship or buy new vessels and weapons for another run through the game. If you find it too easy, you can make things a bit more difficult or interesting by enabling optional challenges. The visuals are clean and feature a stylish vaporwave aesthetic; the game runs smoothly and prioritizes functionality over cutting-edge graphics. I think the soundtrack is solid for an arcade game. And it has cats! I can highly recommend Whisker Squadron: Survivor.
I'd only reccommend this game if you find it on sale as it feels like only just a extra-mode in a Starfox-like game rather than a full game. The reason I say that is due to how repetitive the enemies and levels are, which makes sense for a rogue-lite but is counter to what makes a game like Starfox good. Starfox 64 is known as a timeless classic because of the tight level design, voiced character dialogue, and branching paths all leading to a memorable experience. In this game you will be flying solo down trench the whole time. Whisker Squadron: Survivor is still pretty fun once you get a decent build going, but it takes a while to get there as your first 5 or so runs will put tutorials for mechanics at the start of each one. The result is that when you first start the game it feels very barebones as most of the fun features to play aren't available until you fail a few runs.
