IN SHORT: good game, but it has been abandoned. I recommend it IF you do not care about updates. In an on itself it is a great survivor game with a nice aesthetic to it, a variety of upgrades, weapons and characters, each with their own unique upgrades and quirks. The closed beta further improves this, by adding even more variety and upgrades to the game, despite the fact that some characters and weapons are locked in it. There are lots and lots of potentially interesting combinations to be had by mixing and matching things around. However, the game has been basically abandoned, which would be fine if a proper reason was given, but that unfortunately isn't the case. The author said on Bilibili (a chinese video-sharing platform), over a year ago, that he had hurt his wrist and needed to take a break. However, he never said anything anymore, not on Bilibili, not on this game's Discord, here on Steam, or anywhere else that I could find. What complicates things even more is that the mobile version of the game seems to be getting updates, although I've heard some people saying that those updates aren't made by the author. This whole thing is concerning. Maybe something happenned to the author? We cannot know for sure at this time.

TLDR; Great game for its pricepoint especially if you're a fan of the Survivors-like genre. A few bugs stop some of the weapons and characters from being viable at high levels. 20 Minutes Till Dawn has been on my radar for a while. I wanted another Survivors-like, it was on sale, easy buy. I checked the acheivements since they're great as a primer for pacing and what I should expect. While I had to spend currency on character and weapon unlocks, untimately, it was very cheap and nothing was gated behind an achievement. I was allowed to experiment to my heart's content and that's what 20 Minutes does VERY well. If I had to describe this game, I'd call it the sandbox of Survivors-likes. You aren't limited by the number of skill trees and upgrades you can take during a level, allowing for wild and broken combinations. The game rewards creativity and understanding of abilities with huge spikes in power. Knowing my character's ability and weapon was crucial in finding these spikes. If you want to test your potential for creating builds, this is the freaking game for it. 20 Minutes has some flaws that could be deal breakers for more casual fans. For one, the maps are fairly barren and limited in terms of gimmicks. Second, certain builds break under the pressure of your character's overwhelming ability to activate procs, causing you to lag out. And, worst of all, certain characters and weapons are barely viable at the higher levels, a pain for those achievement hunters. Examples are Hina and the Salvo Knife. Hina is a ninja whose ability is to dash and leave a shadow clone to attack from the point where she initiated the dash. The Salvo Knife selects random targets at you move and you can fire all your knives at once when you max out targets. The Salvo looks like a kunai so you instinctually want to pair the ninja with her weapon, huge mistake. Prone to bugs, the Salvo will reload, select targets, you'll click to fire and then it will... Reload again. I've had these reloads happen as often twice in a row, a possible death sentence depending on your build. Your dash animation as Hina can be canceled by leveling up. If you right click to dash and a level up happens, Hina will stay rooted in place. This happens more often than you think and, at the higher levels, it can end runs you struggled to build up. Despite the bugs, the powerful builds are so much fun and I found myself giggling at combinations like 'Holy Crossbow Katana Ninja' or 'Big Lady With Shotgun.' Do not let the minor frustrations stop you from giving this game a shot. Really, it's only an issue for acheivement hunters like myself. Most will be pleasantly surprised and come back to see what other wild combinations can be made. And you want the real kicker? It's one of the few games where summons are viable, Diablo 2 can't even pull that one off.

It's a pretty good game with lovely artstyle. While it is a bit lacking in terms of replayability, it still can offer some 10 hours of solid fun. My main issue at the moment lies with the endless mode - it becomes too easy and repetitive too quickly, there's not enough variety in enemies and bosses to sustain this mode for more than an hour. Having only 3 base stages can also be a bit of a let down for sure, having been spoiled by the likes of Vampire Survivors and Halls of Torment. That aside, it's a solid title and I enjoyed every minute in it. I'd easily give it 6.5/10.

A good Bullet Heaven game where you try to stay alive for around 20 minutes, hence the title ;). It has some meta progression and no missable achievements. Completion takes around 25 hours. Approximate time to 100%: Around 25 hours Estimated achievement difficulty: 6/10 Minimum number of playthroughs needed: You play it multiple times Is there a good guide available: You don't need a guide Multiplayer achievements: No Missable achievements: No Grinding Achievements: No DLC-Only achievements: No Speedrun achievements: No Time-gated achievements: No RNG-achievements: No Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes, there are many achievements for the highest difficulty Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No Gamepad or mouse and keyboard: I played this with a gamepad 20 Minutes Till Dawn is a Bullet Heaven, like Vampire Survivor. However, there are some differences. The primary weapon is one that you shoot, so it's not automatic. However, if you go for skills during a run with summons, they will auto-attack. This was my preferred build overall. Additionally, the time of a run differs, with 20-minute runs instead of 30-minute runs. And you don't get killed at the end of a run, but you just have to kill the last boss to win a run. One thing I really missed was an upgrade/bonus to collect all the experience on the ground. There are abilities to collect it a bit easier, but not a special thing to collect it all. 20 Minutes Till Dawn has three maps in total and 15 difficulty levels. The first map has way easier enemies than the second and third. So, I went for difficulty 15 on that first map. You have to complete the other two maps at least once to unlock two new characters. Other new weapons and characters are bought with money that you receive after a run. This is also the currency for the skill tree. The game doesn't have complete controller support, as with a controller, you can't see the other skills that unlock when choosing a skill during your run. You also can't check the skills you already have without using your mouse. The first thing I missed the most, as quite an important part, is choosing which skill sets to add to your build. When you add a skill, there will be added two more skills from that same set will be added to the possible options that come up when you level. This can matter as you'll only have a select few of them—still quite a lot, but not everything. I would like it if it was possible to check out the upcoming skills and already acquired skills using a gamepad. For the achievements, you mostly have to win a run with every weapon and every character on the highest difficulty. My preferred character to get to the highest difficulty was Dasher, as her ability to run through enemies and kill them was such a lifesaver. During this phase, I also used the currency to unlock skills in the skills tree. After getting one spell in each rank, I used my money to unlock characters and weapons. After winning on the highest difficulty with Dasher, I did that first map a bunch more times with each character and switching up the guns as well. That way, I would always unlock a weapon and a character achievement if I won that run. After a while, it became a bit boring seeing the same enemies repeatedly, but the other maps were significantly more challenging. I'm glad that 20 Minutes Till Dawn is much shorter than Vampire Survivor, so it always felt like unlocking all the achievements was around the corner. I give 20 Minutes Till Dawn 3.5 out of 5 stars.
