✔️ Tested on Steam Deck, it works fine (01/12/2025). This isn't a visual novel built around complex plot twists or high stakes drama. The story is very lighthearted and that may be part of its appeal. It's the sort of narrative you need to be in the right mood for, since it can feel slow. One thing that stands out to me is how the game portrays the idol industry. Sayoko's route offers a surprisingly sharp look into how demanding and unforgiving that world can be. That route in particular had a weight that contrasts nicely with the rest. My only major gripe is actually the mc, I found all the female characters likeable enough. I don't understand why the writing makes him keep his girlfriend in every route, it makes some of the interactions feel off. It doesn't completely ruin the experience but it does cast a shadow on his character. Art-wise, the gorgeous animated sprites make the characters feel very expressive. This vn is a classic for a reason and a lovely choice.

White Album is a classic for a good reason. No one does character writing in the galge scene like AquaPlus, and that's reflected in this game's maturity. Besides the obvious (Mana), you've got a well executed cast of adult characters who all bring unique elements of drama and attraction, and the main character is a complex dude who can often come across as the bad guy in these relationships. That is the crux of White Album, carried over well in its more famous sequel, of dealing with a protagonist who you understand on an emotional level but also know he needs a cold shower and a good slap to snap out of his romantic fugue. Also the tunes in this game are bops, and particularly the title track White Album will get stuck in your head forever.

White Album 2, please. This game is underrated and misunderstood. At least through my own interpretations, the stories being told here are tragic and heartbreaking. I'm dying to know what White Album 2 does to match it.

I found out about this game through two Demon Dogs and it immediately caught my interest. Started off with Mana's route, at first because I thought it would be the least obvious choice, but ended up fully immersed and genuinely positively surprised. I definitely did not expect the twists and turns, but I had lots of fun experiencing Mana's side of the story. Touya might not be the most clever guy (probably an understatement), but the rest of the cast shines really bright. Can't wait to wrap up Rina's route and then learn about the rest of the girls. If you like exaggerated and easily avoidable drama, definitely give White Album a go.

It's pretty bad. Like 6/10 kinda bad The scenario writing feels bland, uninspiring; The characterisation feels shallow, barely salvaged by decent voice acting; The progression system seems simple but it's easy to miss events or even derail into an unintended route (I somehow ended up in Yayoi route despite prioritising Yuki dialogues) Idk, maybe because the remake's script is mostly based on the original 1998 version still, some elements might've been more receptible to people back then and less so to contemporary audiences. Also YMMV. So why the positive review? Cuz White Album 2 localisation hopium ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You can tell how much WA2‘s reputation precedes this game just by seeing the amount of reviews here asking for 'WA2 when?' instead of actually reviewing lol Not that translations aren't already available for WA2 for quite some time, but that it'd be a real shame if WA1 can reach Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on steam yet some newcomers to the medium have no idea how much better WA2 is in every respect, how truly special it is and deservingly one of the best visual novels of all time
