I originally bought this game because Jerma sucked at it so bad that it irritated me; I'm very glad I did. Thanks Jerma.

The last time I felt nearly as immersed in a game, it was playing Shadow of the Colossus over 20 years ago, pressing down R1 to hold on to one of the giant towering beasts so hard that the button dug into my finger, feeling like I practically was Wander in that moment. The first time I played White Knuckle, that moment felt like just a quaint little trick from a primitive time. It's absurd how much cleverness and challenge this game is able to wring out of some simple but very unique controls. It's tough as nails, but eminently fair; even the steam and lightning, but don't ask me to confirm that right after I die to them. This game is a masterclass in pure mechanical engagement, with an unbelievably high skill ceiling hoisted up in the air by just the left and right click of your mouse, WASD, and a couple keys for auxiliary functions besides. I mean you can totally play it on a controller too, but it feels absolutely perfect on keyboard and mouse. There's really no other game that feels nearly as tactile and physically immersive on the market right now. Maybe Receiver and some of the stuff you can do in Voices of the Void get kind of close, but they're just not on White Knuckle's level, and with massive content drops seemingly coming out of nowhere every few months, it just keeps climbing higher. This game is genuinely one of my absolute favorites ever made, and it's insane for a crotchety old bum like me to say that about anything released after like, 2020. I really think it's one of the best there is. I understand it's not for everybody, but if you like games with a crazy amount of skill expression, and prefer to die a few hundred times learning a game rather than have hollow wins handed to you, get this one.

Great mechanics and gameplay loop and really intriguing artstyle. def going to put a lot of hours into this one. however a "Zen" mode without stamina, enemies and the rising ooze for people who just want to climb without pressure would be a cool addition.

First you think it's a ragebait "weird controls" stream game, then you actually like the controls, then *really* like the controls. Then you realize It's a horror game Then you realize it's a speed game Then you realize it's a roguelite Then you realize you've been having fun the whole time.
