Came for the Birds, Stayed for the Gameplay I thought about buying this game for a long time because I love birds, but I’ve never been particularly good at strategy games—let alone card games. Despite that, I decided to give it a chance and learn how to play, and I haven’t regretted my purchase for a single day. The game’s visuals are absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere is wonderfully calm and gentle. The birds are adorable, and I’ve even learned new things about different bird species while playing. As for the gameplay itself, I still have a lot to learn, but I’ve enjoyed the experience regardless. The core idea of the game is easy to understand, and once you grasp it, you naturally want to learn more ways to score higher points—without forgetting the joy of collecting all the birds in the game. I now own all of the expansion card packs, and I’m still not getting tired of this game. I can easily recommend it to anyone who enjoys relaxing strategy and card games.

The developers have fixed the online system so that if someone leaves the game, the game simply replaces them with a bot instead of kicking everyone out. Thanks to this system, you can now properly raise your rating after it drops (it decreases if you leave rounds yourself). THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME

The strategy is compelling and the art is beautiful. Wingspan is playable ad infinitum because the game's goals, and means to reach those goals, vary each game. Through playing I've learned to recognize birds when I go hiking without even trying to. Looking forward to more expansions!! Currently this is my favorite board game, and the computer game is a welcome substitute when playing the board game is not possible.

I’ve played this game all day before. Like, sunset to sunrise levels of obsession. There’s something about pulling off a perfectly efficient turn, chaining bird abilities together, and squeezing out one more point that just lights up my brain like a Christmas tree. Every match is a new puzzle. You’re drawing from a shared deck, so there’s no pre-planned deck meta—just pure strategy in the moment. Whether I’m chasing a high score, fishing for that one perfect combo, or just trying to make the most of a weird opening hand, I’m locked in. It’s a card game unlike anything else I’ve played, and I love it for that. The dopamine hit when a bird chain goes off perfectly? Unreal. And the art. Oh man, the art. It’s gorgeous in the physical game and just as stunning on Steam. Each card feels like a tiny watercolor painting. The fact that bird abilities and stats mirror their real-world counterparts makes it feel like I’m not just collecting points—I’m curating an actual aviary, a little living, breathing corner of nature. The bugs are a minor annoyance. On both PC and Steam Deck, I get this recurring issue where cards randomly pop up like I’m hovering over them when I’m not. They bounce up and down constantly and get in the way. And unfortunately, crashes are almost a guarantee during long sessions. If I’m playing for more than an hour or so, odds are it’ll crash. It’s frustrating, and I really hope they fix it. But honestly? I still play it. Constantly... It’s just that good! Try it out! If you like card games, strategy, engine-building, birds, and are ready to lose a lot of time, Wingspan is one of the most addictive , beautiful , and just plain fun games out there.

When you first play this game you might think its just a pretty game about birds. You would be so wrong. The level of complexity involved in how you play the game is incredible. My son introduced the game to me and we play online together. He has played many more hours than I have, so is able to tell me why he chooses certain bird cards over others. I was amazed to find that this ranks as one of the most popular board games out there, and the fact that there is now an online version of the game with expansions for Europe and Oceanana adds so many more birds to learn about and use in your game play. The online version also calculates all the points you receive from the various ways you can get points makes scoring so much easier then the physical board game. You don't any knowledge about birds to play, but you will definitely learn a lot of fun facts about birds as you play. An addictive game that I would give a score of 9 out of 10.
